What about the 6th Congressional District Seat?
While Republicans across Monmouth County jockey and fight over who will move up from A ball to AA ball to take Amy Handlin's Freeholder Seat, and Ted's spot of the ticket if he retires, why is there no talk of unseating Frank Pallone?
Yeah, I know several AA and AAA players have challenged him and got their butts kicked in the past, and 98% of all Congressional incumbents cruise to re-election, but I am the only one who thinks Pallone is vulnerable?
Let's start with the fact that Pallone doesn't want the job. He wants to be a US Senator or Govenor, but he's never been willing to risk his "safe" seat to run for the jobs he really wants. He wasn't even willing to risk his safe seat to take on Forrester for Senator when Torricelli quit. He's taking the voters of the 6th district for granted.
Pallone, trying to court favor with Jon Corzine, damaged his support among his own base when he tried to get Scudiery to resign as Democratic County Chairman.
Pallone will not wage a primary battle with Menendez because he is a wimp. But us Republicans are bigger wimps because we concede the seat.
Now is the time for us to take this seat.
So, who would be the perfect candidate? I nominate Joe Azzolina. He would be perfect and he could win. He has support in the Middlesex part of the district, and he's got great name recognition throughout the district. Even the Middletown Republicans could unite behind him, over Judith Stanley's objections, because Joe would only hold the seat a term or two before retiring and the seat would be open to all our ambitious public servants.
Joe's candiacy would help Tom Kean Jr carry Monmouth by the large margin he will need to win in November. I hope Tom Sr calls Joe and once again asks him to come off the bench.
And it would be great for Joe. If he wins he's over the bitter defeat he suffered last year. If he loses, he has still restored his relationship with the party he loves.
Go for it Joe . At least give us someone to vote for other than Ric or Sylvester Nobodyknows

Intriguing. I would support an Azzolina candidacy; he is a credible candidate.
The 6th District is pretty tough as it snakes through every Democrat town in Central Jersey, from Asbury Park through New Brunswick to Plainfield. designed for a Democrat win.
Still, conceding it is wrong as it only serves to strengthen the Democratic Party overall.
You actually stole my thunder; I was planning to do a thread this week on the congressional seats - Rush Holt should not be conceded either.:-)
Great minds think alike?!
I didn't steal your thunder...my blog is not even a drizzle yet. Start the thread
I think Joe is a great candidate and he has a great story that will resonate. But, as for any other offices, perhaps it's time for him to be more of a "Kean" type and being an elder statesman.
There's a place for that..
Pallone made a great big hairy mistake when he turned on Chairman Scudiery. But, I think he'll make it because he guarantees a certain amount of crossover. Unless he gets off the reservation again, I'm pretty sure he'll get Congress.
He had his moment for Senate, during the Year of the Lautenberg, but he didn't do it. Opportunity almost never knocks and it sure as hell doesn't come around twice after you don't open the door the first time.
Just an opinion.
PALLONE ENDORSES SENATOR MENENDEZ
Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement after endorsing Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) at a press conference at the Trenton State House this morning.
"Over the past year, I have traveled to every part of our state listening to the concerns of New Jerseyans. They feel their everyday concerns are ignored by both the Bush administration and the Republican controlled Congress in Washington. It's time that their voices are heard, and the only way that will happen is if we unite as a party in an effort to elect a Democratic majority.
"For the last ten years I've been fighting for a Democratic majority. Today, I join Bob Menendez to announce that we will go into November's elections unified with the goal of building that majority. Today, I endorse Bob Menendez for Senate and pledge to work on his behalf to ensure the voices of hard working New Jerseyans are heard in Washington."

You know, as long as I will live, people will be a mysery to me. Where I'm from, people don't change friends with their socks and sure as heck don't start and stop on a dime. I suppose that is a little old fashined these days. You know the only one Frank probably really wanted to support was HIMSELF. He already threw a lot of people under the bus to try and get in position.
Politicans, do, in fact, sicken me... both sides of the aisles more and more. I'll vote Pallone, but hold my nose while I'm doing it.

Was that typo or intentional? Either way, I like it.
I won't vote for him, and we don't even know who's running against him.
It WAS a typo, but I suppose "misery" is as good as anything else. So, let's just say it should have been misery.

Ed! Where have you been?! It feels like centuries since we've worked together.
My good friend Secretary Stanton,
Its good to be fighting the good fight with you once again. As in the past I am sure we will have our differences from time to time, but we will work them out like ladies and gentlemen for the good of our county and our party.
I look forward to see you and Abe this evening. No secret handshakes.
Dear Bill:
Isn't this fun?
I think so. We have a good understanding of each other by now. Knowing yourn party, try and make a change and see what they do.
Nothin succeeds in convincing like truth. Check the message above and then do what you must and THEN let me know what you think on MY blog. Interrupt as you see fit there, I want to see what you see for YOURSELF, first hand about your "party."
This isn't a mock...I've been you before, sir. And, consequently, that is why I'm "me" now and am likely "you" just a bit later.
FYI: Contact me at www.jimpurcell0309@yahoo.com (I'll change it if it gets weird, folks and, Bill, promise won't say a thing, and that goes for Abe).
MY word has never been in question.
All my best.

Watch the typo's there, JP. You might just flush out the "professor" to "grade" you again.;-þ

Yes, I'm glad you think so. I didn't think you felt that way a week ago.
"We have a good understanding of each other by now."
We're getting there.

I know what you mean, but I am not afraid. They don't have anything I want, and I don't have anything they can take.

You lost me a bit here, but I will continue to read your blog, and participate when I have something worthy to contribute.

Time will tell.

I doubt the professor has made it to my lowly blog. I'm glad you two check in. :-)
Misters Lincoln and Seward: Have turned my blog into a veteran's newsletter for my organization and am going to leave it at that. You guys are already doing the political blogging better than anyone else. Why make it too diffused? 2 are more than enough, I think. I'll just go on a bit about old paratroopers in my blog.
And, Mr. Stanton, I am so tired of telling what happened about the PR thing with the county I'm about ready to barf. Believe whatever you want. I have witnesses and you have the word of a woman I never spoke with and an editor that was getting this second hand from the person who wasn't there. Bear in mind the editor was someone I quit to work at a rival publication. It is appropriate that you are Stanton then, he was dense in so many ways as well.
I am also not the chairman of any organization anymore, unless Elections lost the various resignatins. In fact, I no longer hold a committee seat either. The party is back and staffed and now I exit, stage left. I have given those roles up because more qualified people are assuming them. I am now going back to just being a plain old voter...if that's alright with you and the Jugend Mr. Stanton? Voting IS still OK, right? Or are you on the other side of that one too?
As for "credible journalists," sir, my last writing award was from the US Congress. Do you have one of those on the wall somewhere? Or maybe one of your pet journalists have one of them? No...probably not. And, as for credibility in journalism in this area, to make such an assertion speaks to either you not being even remotely aware of who owns what in your party or purposefully hiding the truth. I am at least candid about my opinions and do not hide behind veiled deceit (such as those people who own and influence media in the GOP). I also do not taint my reporters. Ask people in the industry who does and it won't be my name you hear.
As for "anti-religious" don't be ridiculous. Bible thumping wasn't a colonial tradition, and wasn't espoused by the Framers. Morons added that later, culminating in "now." The Framers were specific about the non-interference of church in the matters of state. Try finding the etiology of what the word "Republican" means and you may just be amazed!
