Sheriff's race

The entry of Belmar Police Chief Jack Hill into the race for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff is good news for the citizens on Monmouth County. None of the other candidates of either party are in Hill's league. Prior to Hill's announcement I was wondering if either party would field a candidate who could actually do the job.

This is more grim news for the Monmouth GOP, who so far are fielding a Karate teaching dog catcher and a private detective.

UPDATE: Jim Purcell is reporting the Buddy Amato is out of the GOP Sheriff's race. Purcell reports that Amato backed down at the behest of animal rights activists who begged him to stay on at the SPCA. Another source states that Amato met with the screening committee, didn't like what he was hearing from the committee, and decided not to run.

I think Chief Jack Hill can and will do an outstanding job as Sherrif of Monmouth County. He is by the book even if it is not POPULAR to do so. That is what Monmouth needs and needs him now.
