GOP losses call for change
Wall Republican Party Chairman Bob McKenna paid a heavy price for not letting his candidates debate, and perhaps an even heavier one for the largely negative campaign that was orchestrated. ("Wall voters choose two independents, Republican," Nov. 7.)
One of the first things on his post-election to-do list should be to submit his resignation to the Wall Republican County Committee. If he does not, then the county committee should take the initiative and oust him in favor of someone who can better lead the Republicans as they go forward.
The voters of Wall spoke loudly for change and for fresh faces.

June will be here before we know it - and with it both local and the county reorganization.

You must be nuts. The guy is chairman for 20+ years and wins every year. An amazing record. He loses one campaign and its time to resign? That's like being mad at Joe Torre because he only went to the world series 6 times in 12 years. McKenna is an excellent chairman, does a great job, has delivered "R" wins in Wall for decades and now he should be tossed out? Get real.
What delivers "R" wins in Wall is the fact that a lot of "R's" who live in Wall. I do think Mr. Hrebeck means the Chairman should resign because "R's" lost because "r's" did not loose. The people elected where "R,s" who where not supported by the Chairman. This would lead one to believe that there is a split in the party in Wall. I would not lay a win or lose at the feet of a municipal chairman, because candidates not chairman win or loose elections. However, where there is a split in the party that results brekaway party members winning it is not unreasonable to conclude that the leadership has failed. That can be laid at the feet of a chairman.
I would suppose then that the same could be said of the situation in Howell last year when two registered "R's" ran as Independents and soundly defeated the "R's" given the municipal line by the local chair?

Great point!
The losses to Independent Republicans in Wall and Howell is a strong indication of the weakness of the county GOP organization.
As a Western Monmouth observer, Howell and Wall are very different indeed. In Howell a disgruntled "r" was not able to get the line. Rather than running a primary the guy spent more than $200,000 of his own money we're told (hard and soft) to "buy 3 seats". This is why these pay to play things are a joke. Real people can't raise money so millionaires walk in without a clue and "buy them". The same Howell guy supposedly then gave $20,000 through multiple sources to the Wall people. This is a problem for County Republicans but not because of weak leaders. If we can't raise money but the "rich types" can spend whatever they want, we lose. We need to have spending caps if we can't raise money otherwise we'll have a bunch of Corzine types running Monmouth and the State. Wake up people.
