Assemblywoman-elect Caroline Cassagrande today said that she regrets making the comment, "the First Amendment didn't mean to provide for anonymous bomb throwing," at the November 28 Manalapan Township Committee meeting.
Cassagrande, who is the Manalapan Township Attorney, said she wishes she had not responded to a resident's question about subpoenas issued to Google regarding the identity of the blogger(s) known as DaTruthSquad, or that she had used the term "lying" instead of "bomb throwing."
Cassagrande said that her only involvement in the case of The Township of Manalapan vs Stuart Moskovitz is to review OPRA requests and to answer questions from the public. The case is being handled by other attorneys who were hired prior to her tenure as township attorney.
Cassagrande will no longer be Manalapan's attorney after December 31st. Nor will she accept any municipal work within the 12th legislative district once she is sworn in as the district's representative in the state Assembly.

It's nice that Caroline has followed up her zeal to destroy first amendment rights with downright lying -- what she accuses others of doing. The attorneys handling that case were hired in February. She was hired in January. So they weren't hired before she got here. She reviewed their illegal contingent fee contract. She billed the township for overseeing the case. That's all public record. I think it's important that the people know what they should know about the character of their new assemblywoman -- handpicked by Adam Puharic -- so I would appreciate your publishing this comment.
I sincerely hope you revisit Casagrande and O'Scanlon come January to make sure they have given up any municipal contracts in the district. I, for one, don't believe that they will and somehow will come up with an excuse as to why they can't at this time. I would bet that O'Scanlon just recuses himself from the work, but his company will keep "consulting" on municipal cell towers in the 12th. I would also hope that you would publish your findings if it shows that they didn't. Please be as vigilant with these two as you were with Mike Panter and Ellen Karcher.
Query, Is the greater conflict representing a town within your district or without?
Assumably your intrests are aligned if you represent a town within your district.
If legislation that would be good for my distrct or even a town within it is bad for a town outside my district that I represent I am then conflicted. Granted this situation could arise between two towns within the same district but all in all if my representative is going to represent government entities for a living I would prefer those entities be within my district. At least that seems the most logical course.
Not to criticize Casagrande or Oscanlon but the ideal would be if they represented no Government entities and made a living some other way. Of course our entire governmental system fails to live up to that ideal so I give these to credit for trying to move in the right direction.
