Red Bank Republican Councilman John Curley will "very likely" run for Monmouth County Freeholder in 2008, setting up a possilbe challenge to his high school classmate Bill Barham.
The terms of Barham and Lillian Burry are up next year. Burry is expected to seek re-election. Barham has openly questioned whether he will seek another term, or even finish his current term.
"Freehold is a mess and the Monmouth GOP is a mess," said Curley, "its long past time to clean them up and end the county club deal making."
Curley said the only thing that would stop him from running is the Freeholder board not reappointing former Red Bank Mayor Ed McKenna, a Democrat, as assistant county counsel in January. "But I know he's going to be reappointed, so I'm running." Curley and McKenna, have been long term adversaries from their years serving together on the Red Bank governing body.
RedBankGreen has a candid profile of Curley written in November 2006.
