Politickernj reports that John Crowley will not seek the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate because of "an inability to transition out of his role as President and CEO of Amicus Therapeutics."
Translation: He hasn't found a suitable replacement for himself as CEO, and he can't pay for his children's medical expenses if he leaves that job. Amicus pays Crowley $55,000 per quarter, plus the taxes on that money for the Crowley family medical expenses.
Crowley made the right decision last week. Those who pressured him to reconsider did the party and the Crowley family a disservice. By submitting to the pressure, for even a week, Crowley did a similar disservice to his family, employees, shareholders and the party.
John Crowley is an impressive man and would make an outstanding high office holder. However, the timing isn't right and he has other commitments to fulfil.
