Senate races in both parties

Congressman Rob Andrews told the Star Ledger that he is challenging Senator Frank Lautenberg for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

On the Republican side of the aisle, Politikernj says that State Senator Bill Baroni has endorsed Goya heir Andy Unanue for the Republican nomination.

Politickernj speculates that Barnoni's endorsement is a signal that John Crowley meant it when he said he is not running. There has been a great deal of Republican chatter this week about Crowley getting into the race, despite his announcement that he would not.

I think Baroni's endorsement is a signal that the Republicans are conceding the race to Lautenberg and taking Unanue for all the money they can in the meantime.

If Andrews beats Lautenberg in the primary, there are going to be several Republicans kicking themselves for not competing for the nomination for what will then be an "open seat."

Let this be a lesson to all those in politics who operate in fear.

No big names came out to run against Pallone because they felt he was unbeatable.

Pallone has saved money for a Senate run, but has never run out of fear of upsetting Frank Lautenburg's apple cart.

Just like Holt. And Andrews until now.

And as you point out, there will be several Republicans kicking themselves for not stepping up to run for the Senate out of fear of Lautenburg's status.

So, the strategy for beating the incumbents was to wait until they retire, run for higher office or they get indicted?

If the Democrats are going to dominate our state, shouldn't we at least make them work harder than this?

Art you hit the nail right on the head. I have been asking around and that is exactly the strategy.

Republicans have met the enemy and it is there own leadership.
