The Asbury Park Press reports that revenue on New Jersey's toll roads has declined because driving is more expensive due to rising fuel prices.
The Turnpike Authority's solution is an "automatically triggered" toll increase to increase revenue.
Where did these geniuses go to school?
Less people are using the toll roads because it is too expensive, so in order to make up for the loss of revenue they exacerbate the problem by making it even more expensive. Duh.
The automatically triggered toll increases would be on top of the 45% increase that Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri wants to fund the expansion of the Turnpike and the Parkway. Why would we expand highways that less people are using?
How about some automatically triggered spending cuts? Does someone in Trenton have inside information that energy prices are coming down anytime soon?

Aw, Trenton is so cute. Not too long ago it was very concerned with the "ridiculous" severance buyout Barbara Trzeszkowski was set to receive from Keansburg (and N.J. taxpayers). Now it wants to kill those same people - who haven't reverted to the bicycle as means of transportation - with toll hikes. Hmm. I see a few holes in the state's conscience.
