Curley Resigns Red Bank Council Seat

RedBankGreen has the scoop that John Curley resigned his Red Bank council seat in order to focus on his Freeholder campaign and because he is moving to Middletown. Curley's term expires in December.

Curley's replacement on the Red Bank Council will be chosen by the council from 3 candidates submitted by the Red Bank GOP County Committee. John S. Tyler, Jr is the GOP candidate on the November ballot for Curley's seat.

Curley is the GOP nominee for Freeholder competing to fill the seat that Bill Barham is vacating.

you forgot to refer to him as John "The Man" Curley..

For now on, please refer to him as that..thanks.

heh. I hope this doesn't hurt him in Red Bank, although I'm sure the voters understand why he's doing it and making the proper decision rather than face any conflicts.

It is clearly the proper decision. If John doesn't live in Red Bank, it is not proper for him to serve on the council.

Politically, the move is neutral for the freeholder race. He will still do well in Red Bank and he will still do well in Middletown.

John gives his heart and soul, and most of his time to his public service. He was effectively a full time councilman. Now he is a full time candidate. When he wins, he will be a full time freeholder. He statement that he couldn't be a good councilman and a candidate for freeholder was the truth for him based in the standard that he set.

If the Red Bank council appoints John Tyler, the GOP candidate for Curley's council seat, it will be good for Red Bank and the Red Bank GOP, allowing Tyler to run as an incumbent and giving the voters a couple a months to evaluate his performance. I doubt the Dems on the Red Bank council will appoint him, but they might. Pat Mena is a decent man and might not play hard ball.

The Red Bank GOP must submit three candidates to the council, who will pick one. The GOP should make John Bennett and Mike Arnone the other candidates, making Tyler the most attractive candidate to the Dems.

As far as the Middletown GOP having a bad impact on Curley, as Jim and Alyssa have written about, that is just nonsense. Jim knows it and just took the opportunity to throw some more mud at Peter Carton and Brian Nelson. Nelson doesn't even live in Middletown anymore. This is expected from Jim, for whom the battle with Carton and Nelson is personal. I was disappointed to see that Alyssa sipped from Jim's cool aide.

Aren't you glad you asked? :-)
