DeSeno lets Pringle off the hook

Pringle is a victim of "pop culture." HBO, The Godfather, Al Pacino, Robert DiNiro, David Chase, James Galdofini and NJGUIDO.COM are responsible for Pringle's "Guido" remarks.
~ Tommy DeSeno,

Pringle agrees.

UPDATE: Read the text of DeSeno's remarks here.

Following residents who were both outraged at and supportive of Mayor Ken Pringle over his controversial July 4th newsletter, Asbury Park lawyer Tom DeSeno, speaking for the Italian One Voice Coalition and the New Jersey chapter of Order Sons of Italy gave a "heartfelt" statement about the controversy wherein he declared that Pringle's slurs were not his fault, but that the mayor had got caught up in a "pop culture" that celebrates disparaging stereotypes of Italians.

Pringle, who held a stoic demeanor throughout the business portion of the council meeting and in the face of 40 year Belmar resident Kevin Fay's call for his resignation for embarassing and disgracing the town, become more animated after DeSeno's remarks. He said he had given the offending July 4th newsletter a great deal of thought and research, including reviewing the local websites NJGuido.com and GuidoFistpump. His research led him to believe that the term Guido was OK to use, mainstream, and would be appreciated by the audience he intended, Belmar renters.

Pringle issued an apology in the July 18th newsletter. During the council meeting he referred to a new apology that he said was distributed to Belmar businesses and would be mailed to residents. Pringle said the apology was posted on the borough website. I couldn't find it.

The NY Daily News and the Asbury Park Press also covered the council meeting. FoxNews couldn't make it.
