McLeod on Off-Shore Drilling

U.S Representative Frank Pallone, Jr. recently convened a conference of our “leaders” on the boardwalk in Belmar to chant in unison the Democratic mantra of “No Drilling! No Oil!” The choir included Governor Corzine and Senators Lautenberg and Menendez. They stated that there was only 30 days worth of gasoline off the Jersey coast and described the proposal to drill here as a “handout.”

Oil companies are profit making entities. If there is not enough oil off the Jersey coast to recover their considerable investment and earn a large profit they are not going to drill. The oil companies risk large losses if exploration is unproductive. The State and Federal governments receive revenues from the oil companies. I guess these “leaders” think we don’t need the money; they plan to tax us for what they think we need.

Alterative energy sources are important, but will not be able to provide most of our energy needs for several decades. Nuclear power, the one proven alternative, is opposed by the majority of these Democrats. We still need oil. New Jersey’s offshore oil can be tapped within ten years. It will provide an important paving stone in the road to energy self-sufficiency.

These Democrats are the best friends the Mideastern oil sheiks have! By continually blocking oil drilling here in the states, they continue our dependance on foreign oil.
Bonga Bonga.

He as a page of the Affiliated's site. That's it to the best of my knowledge.

with respect, Abe, you might want to rethink the statement about "these Democrats" being the "best friends of Mideastern oil sheiks." Republicans have that one, by a mile.

I'll join the chorus in disagreeing with Abe about which party is "best friends" with the Middle Eastern oil sheiks. However, I don't think they suffer under Democratic leadership either.

The Democrats claim to want to end our dependence on foreign oil but offer no alternatives. They oppose nuclear energy (at least they can pronounce it) and support wind power as long as it does not obstruct their own personal views of the beach.

Being the opposition part means doing more than saying no to an idea, it means a feasible alternative must be put forward in its place.

I've heard the Democrats tell us how wrong the Republicans are on a lot of issues and in some cases, they may be right. But if they offer no better ideas, what purpose are they serving?
