Barack Obama handled to press well when he said "I have no reponse to that" regarding what will probably become the most famous New Yorker cover ever.
However the Obama campaign has ensured that the whole word will see the cartoon by calling it "tastless and offensive."
By their very nature, editorial cartoons are tasteless and offensive to half the people who see them. The other half likes them and thinks they're great. So what? It has been this way since at least the 1700's.
In the land of the free and the home of the brave, The United States of America, we don't issue Fatwas for offensive cartoons.
