I was just in the midst of researching the alleged bias incident in Asbury Park last Friday night when I got a call from Courier reporter Alyssa Passeggio.
Passeggio told me that Greater Long Branch President Lorenzo Dangler will be issuing a statement later today condemning me and my writing about race on this blog. She wanted to know if I had a comment.
How can I comment on a statement that hasn't been issued yet?
So rather than give the Courier a comment on Dangler's statement that hasn't been issued, the quote I gave Passeggio was, "Why would Dangler issue a statement about me when there was an alleged bias incident happening in Asbury Park?"
Passeggio was unaware of the incident.
Dangler had nothing to say about Jesse Jackson calling Barack Obama a fucking half breed nigger until I started writing about it.
More on the alleged bias incident tomorrow, as well as comments on Dangler's statement, if he makes it.
UPDATE: Justified Right Steps Up Again:
In 1996 the State segregated Asbury Park's school district by race.
I've never heard Dangler say a Sharpton-esque word about it.
Or the Asbury Park dePressed, or the Coaster, or the Courier, or any other paper.
What the hell is wrong with liberals these days? MLK, RFK, they fought for people. They fought for civil rights.
Today's liberals only want to save polar bears and trees and stuff like that.
If this were the 1960's, liberal activists would be parachuting into Asbury Park to protest a school the government segregated by race.
Today liberals say, "Well, they get $60 million a year in Abbott money, so I guess it's ok to be segregated. Save the whales?"
Good grief.

Art,
I said he should be issuing a statement later tonight. I anticipate a statement but cannot guarantee such an action.
That wasn't your exact quote either, but fear not, I keep good notes.
Alyssa
just like all the other courier articles, i am sure that purcell and co is probably writing the statement for him and then generating a story out of it. SOP for the courier.
Actually, anonymous, both Alyssa and myself have been working really hard to get in touch with a lot of people (as you can obviously see, considering she reached out to Art). By saying "Purcell and Co," though, you're including Jim, and he is not writing anything this week. I speak for myself, but I'm sure Alyssa would agree that I do NOT like being lumped in a statement like that.
Just FYI, read the stories and don't assume before making a comment like that. Then again, if you want to, go ahead. First Amendment gives you that right. Might as well abuse it.
and actually, I take another offense to the anonymous comment.
I write ALL of my own articles, actually. NO one else touches them or tells me what to write at all. They go through the editing process for grammar and spelling, just as ANY other newspaper does.

Please don't tell the world I had a hard time saying "Asbury Park" without "Press" after it.
Why would you ask me for a comment about something that might or might not be happening?
Art,
If I am expecting something to happen, and other circumstances support the thought process (such as Mr. Dangler's previous comments), I can ask your reaction. It comes down to the NAACP is probably going to take issue with what you said and I wanted to know what you think about.
Just as we can ask for quotes on election night before results are officially released, we can ask for your thoughts on something before it officially happens.
To be fair, Art, I did not push you to comment and offered to call you back later for another chance to comment. I am trying to give you the same opportunity to be heard as the other people I called. In fact, if you get two calls you are already ahead of everyone else.
As far as anonymous, Mr. Dangler is a very respectable and intelligent man who can write his own comments. But how flattering that you think we play PR for such large agencies.
Melissa is accurate in her description, we have worked hard to contact people and get varying views on this topic. Read the work, and feel free to send me your comments.
Alyssa
Thanks for clearing that up Alyssa. I look forward to a second call, or a face to face, after the statement is issued. As Melissa suggested on on her blog, I am willing to be present when a statement is made.
Regarding the "Purcell and Co" comment, I've known both Alyssa and Melissa to be hard working and fair reporters.
I've also known The Courier to have a reputation, deserved or not, consistent with the anonymous comment, albeit before Alyssa's and Melissa's time there.

If Dangler goes after Art, I'll take him to task.

Thanks Tom. I was getting ready to look up the ACLU, and hoping they didn't get too many Christmas cards cause of this blog.
One thing though Tommy, please leave my trees out of this.
P.S.Tom....this might get us both of FoxNews!
More nonsense from the joke that is the Courier. Don't expect it to end anytime soon. Jimmyboy and Co. won't stop until you are personally destroyed.
Art, don't let them bully you. There are twice as many readers of this blog than the Courier.
Alyssa, you had better wake up before Jimmyboy makes a fool out of you too just like he did to McGrath.
If Fox has you on, insist I sit next to you as your lawyer. I won't say a word.
I'll be too busy staring at myself in the monitor, wearing the blissful grin of a man who has finally realized his dream.
You're hired!
About time. Someone needs to give tommy boy a job.
So far he is up there as the biggest goofs of monmouth county.
Odds are you will prob get on tv with Carson Daley and his featured high scool garage band before you come close to fox news. Sorry but it's the truth.
