Pallone on GAO Fort Monmouth Report:

The Asbury Park Press quoted Congressweenie Frank Pallone regarding the Fort Monmouth closure as follows:

Rep. Frank J. Pallone Jr. said the report "shows that they can't make the move without a negative impact to the global war on terrorism."

Pallone, D-N.J., said the New Jersey delegation will call for a second hearing before the House Armed Services Committee to review the GAO report and the Army report on which it is based. The first hearing, before the Readiness Subcommittee, was held in December.

"Not only are you not able to have the people who will do the job, but it's going to cost you twice as much and you are going to have to compromise security," Pallone said. "I think all these things are fuel for the fire for us to make point to the committee, if we can get another hearing, that the DOD has not met the test."

For being in Congress for 18 years and delivering only platitudes to his district, Congressweenie Frank Pallone is hereby awarded the Obie Award.

Amazing. Not only is it a bad idea to shut down Fort Monmouth, but it was obvious it was coming long before BRAC made its announcement and these guys did nothing and were not prepared for the announcement. What is the point of having representatives in Washington if they don't have the brains to see this coming or political acumen to prevent it?

Not only is Fort Monmouth vital to our national security, but it's vital to the economy of the districts these guys represent. Even if the Fort offered no crucial service to national security, they should have fought for it.

How stupid is it to reelect people who in a down economy let the Fort go without a real fight? This issue alone should bring down Pallone and Holt and damage Lautenburg.

How many elections did Frankie put some protesters out to walk in front of the Fort, getting all kinds of accolades, headlines, and being rewarded with recurring re-elections, for doing NOTHING to "Save the Fort!"?.. he was, is, and continues to be, pathetic- and just- about unbeatable!.. of course, both he and Holt need to be punished by the voters, but as you know, they will likely get some 65-75% re-elected, by a lot of Rep's, too, again this year.. the whole thing is sad, but true, and kudos to Dir. Burry, and her professionalism and attempts ( quite successfully, thus far) to get as much of that Fed. land for US, here in Monmouth County, as the Fort closes.. we need to get this word out, all of us!.. Signed, "Tired of Slacker/Phony Incumbents, Pro-GOP Results"!..
