You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that the closure of Fort Monmouth and its operations moving to Aberdeen Maryland is a terrible idea.
The BRAC commission based its decision is close the fort on the pentagon's misrepresentations of the costs and impact of the move. In addition to the adverse effect that the move will have on the Monmouth and New Jersey economies, our national security and ability to fight the war on terror is compromised, as is the safety of our troops.
A new GAO report says that the move, which was to be completed by 2011, will not be completed until 2019 or 2024 and will cost $1.6 billion more than estimated.
Reversing this decision is a should be a no brainer. Even a former of the BRAC commission says he wouldn't have voted to close Fort Monmouth if he knew then what he knows now.
So what are our representatives in Washington doing about this? The Asbury Park Press says "members of New Jersey's Congressional delegation will call on U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-MO., to hold another hearing to fully explore the GAO report's implications."
Another hearing to fully explore the implications. Jeepers they're creepy. How long do Pallone, Holt, Lautenberg or Menendez have to be in Washington before they have any clout? The Maryland Congressional delegation must have pictures of these clowns with Jersey girls.
