This story really should not have been buried on page B6.
While Frank Pallone panders to residents by proposing legislation that he knows will go nowhere, Freeholder Director Lillian Burry is producing results by leading the County's fight to protect Bayshore residents from the incompetence of FEMA, the Army Corp of Engineers, and the State DEP.
At Burry's direction, the County has filed an appeal of FEMA's new flood zone maps. By doing so, the County has already saved Bayshore residents the expense of filing their own appeals and at the very least postponed the new flood
Meanwhile, Burry's opponents in the upcoming election are pandering to the public employees unions and making up issues where their aren't any.
If anyone should run into Amy Mallet or her running mate, be sure to ask them where they stand on off-shore drilling. It's not that Freeholders have any power over off-shore drilling, it is just that shortly after John McCain announced that he was for it, they had a gleeful press release declaring their heartfelt opposition to it, and challenged Lillian Burry and John Curley to declare their positions.
I've been searching all over the Internet for that press release. It has been scrubbed. I wonder why.

Lillian Burry works hard for the people of Monmouth County and she deserves recognition and support for that work.I wonder why the Asbury Park Press ignores this. John Curley should consider aiding in this endeavor and where is the grandstanding republican assemblywoman these days....no sign of her lately either. The people of Middletown should remember all this when it's residents are asked for their vote in November this year and in the future.
I understand that the problem is that the state and or the army corp of engineers have not maintained the levees and that is why there is a risk of flood.
If there is a risk of flood regardless of the reason is it not FEMAS job to change the flood zone designation?
If they do not change it and the affected people do not get flood Insurance who pays when there is a flood?
Help me out here explain how not changing the designation makes a bad situation better?
Freeholder Burry sold out the residents of Oceanport and Tinton Falls when she voted with the Governor's representatives on the Fort Monmouth redevelopment plan. This Republican will be bullet voting for John Curley. The residents of Tinton Falls and Oceanport should have long memories come November.
