Sullivan joins MoreMonmouthMusings

MoreMonmouthMusings is proud to announce that John Joseph "JJ" Sullivan, III has joined the blog as its very first correspondent.

JJ, 24, previously worked as a reporter for The Courier Caliendo Crier. He is a freelance correspondent for the Greater Media papers covering Fair Haven and Oceanport. This summer he was a blogger for NJ.com, covering the happenings at the Jersey Shore.

Sullivan will cover local news for MoreMonmouthMusings, with a focus on the Bayshore, particularly Middletown and Keyport. While he is aware that this blog is run by an opinionated Republican, he is charged with reporting news, regardless of the political affiliations of those he covers.

This is the first of many exciting improvements coming to MoreMonmouthMusings. The blog has experienced tremendous growth in the last few months, revealing a need for fresh commentary and honest reporting in Monmouth County and beyond. Rather than be limited by what founding blogger Art Gallagher can produce himself, we are opening it up to other contributors.

If anyone is interested in being a correspondent covering the Southern or Western parts of Monmouth County, please email Art at artvg@aol.com.

Additionally, for the first time in three years, MoreMonmouthMusings will be accepting advertising in order to compensate the new contributors for their hard work. If any business, campaign, or organization is interested in presenting their message to over 3000 committed readers* per week, contact Art at artvg@aol.com

* Over 20% of MoreMonmouthMusings visitors spend an hour or more per visit!

This young man is a talented reporter, articulate and fair. DO NOT INTERFERE,Art. Let him report the truth from his prospective....NOT YOURS !!!He's far more objective than you are.

Thanks. That's the idea.

Why is he no longer at that rag paper? I noticed that a couple of their reporters have not stayed there that long. If he is going to report the truth, let him report & not give his opinions.

That's why he's here, and not at "the rag paper" to answer your question.

But why is he no longer there? Thats what I would like to know.

Asked and answered. Read in between the lines.

Good. Then he sounds like a good man.

JJ is a nice young man and I wish him the best in his ventures.

Art, it seems that you are suggesting that JJ left our paper due to untruthful coverage. That is plain ridiculous. In fact, JJ would be untruthful to support any such accusations, and I know him to be an honest guy.

You may not like a particular slant of some articles or writers, but a person's work is their own. If you have a problem with a particular work, perhaps you should leave it there. Suggesting that the entire paper is untruthful because you do not like the coverage is a bit unfair.

JJ started his time in journalism at a desk just two feet from mine. I hope I was able to teach my partner enough that he can report happenings without being influenced by his boss, whether it be here or with you.

Welcome back Alyssa.

Obviously I think very highly of JJ.

I'm not saying that he reported anything untruthfully or that he left because anything was reported untruthfully.

I am looking forward to his work here which I expect to be honest and based on who, what, when, where and why.

is this JJ the same one that wrote the articles about the HRC featured on the Middletown dem Web site? If so, how do you think he would feel about your inproper use of the n-bomb? Not so much..and his work at "that rag" was good, as are all the writers whose talent was identified by Jim Purcell. Say what you want about the courier, but they keep producing (and continue to employ) talented and hardworking writers

maybe jj will expose how corrput mtown republicans and how bad thwy really are and how bad the town has become under their reign

This is a countywode blog, he needs to cover the freeholder election

Let him interview all 4 Middletown candidates, and then we will see how objective he is

The scope of this site demands a more political flair. I desperately hope that JJ will be doing a bulk of his coverage on the November election in Middletown and Monmouth county, in general. I read an interview in the Caliendo Crier a while ago that was an interview with CUrley. This shaggy guy did a helluva job on it, considering the Azzolina connection. Id say campaign coverage..

and Walsh lover...I wonder if JJ wasnt forced to write the HRC articles, looking at how close and the NAACP are

I thought he covered Keyport for The Indepedent

I think Alyssa pretty much said all that needed to be said. My departure from The Courier was anything but dubious. Far from controversial, it was an amicable parting of ways and I still consider the staff close friends. (I still consult my magic 8-ball)

It is tough business, and you should not take anything personally. To infer that I was forced to write articles, or put any type of slant on my writing, is an outright farce.

I wrote the HRC articles, but, for me, they were compelling from a legal standpoint because the borough attorney openly admitted that litigation was the basis for her dismissal (almost verbatem, and during public session no less). Investigation revealed that the HRC only had the authority given to it by the committee, so her basis for filing suit was iffy at best.

As for "Down with Scharf," those sentiments may be a bit extreme, but you are on point about Purcell: he knows talent. Alyssa and Melissa Gaffney are great reporters. Before them, Matt McGrath and Scott Shanley proved exceptional. I am proud to call Jim a friend, no matter what the situation.

and I did cover Keyport for The Independent...from late April to late June

Why did JJ leave the Independent. Personally I believe the Independent supports a republican slant to news and leaves much to be desired in accurate reporting many times. In the past JJ has done exceptional work at the Courier,e.g the artices on Middletown's failure to meet the revaluation deadlines and the weak and illegal excuses. Good luck,JJ.You do nice work!!

He didn't. He is still a correspondent for Greater Media.
