FITZSIMMONS AND URBANO FOR MATAWAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

MATAWAN DEMOCRATS UNWILLING TO FACE PUBLIC OVER HALF MILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT, CANCEL FINAL COUNCIL MEETING BEFORE ELECTION

Matawan Republican Borough Council candidates Tom Fitzsimmons and Joe Urbano today criticized the Democratic council majority in Matawan for cancelling the final public meeting before Election Day, saying they were afraid to face residents unhappy with the almost half million dollar budget deficit they’ve run up.

“For months now, this council has been afraid to make tough decisions and cut spending”, said Urbano. C Now, to add insult to injury, they wont even face the residents of Matawan and explain their actions in the last public meeting before Election Day. This is a slap in the face to every taxpayer in Matawan.”

The Borough Council has come under fire recently for their decision to borrow $160,000 from the following year’s budget, the second year in a row it has had to do so, and for running a budget deficit of approximately $465,000.

“This council has shown total disregard for their fiscal responsibilities, so its not surprising that they would show total disregard for the right of Matawan residents to address their government”, said Fitzsimmons. “This is a perfect example of why Matawan needs new representatives on the council. The fact that Will Malley and Bob Bunyon are afraid to face residents and talk about the financial decisions they’ve made, yet expect people to vote for them, is disgraceful

Borough Council meeting has been rescheduled for Tues. 10/28 at 6:30pm. However, it will be a limited Agenda. Hmmm, that should be interesting.
