Mallet's lead widens to 141

After the first day of counting the provisional ballots in Monmouth County, Democratic Freeholder candidate Amy Mallet's lead over Republican candidate John Curley has widened from 18 to 141 votes.

Approximately 1/3 of the ballots have been sorted and counted, including votes from Asbury Park.

The tally of provisionals counted as of last night were Mallet 274, Mason 217, Burry 159 and Curley 151.

Not yet counted are votes from Wall and Middletown, which are expected to break for Curley. Also not counted are votes from Long Branch and Neptune, which are expected to break for Mallet.

It is expected that the vote count will be completed today. The statutory deadline for filing for a recount is tomorrow, November 19.

With over 25,000 absentee and provisional ballot that would have to be hand counted, a recount would likely take a month. With lawyers on the clock, this would be an expensive endeavor.

But I support a recount, even if Curley takes the lead.

Expensive, yes, but worth it to make sure this is done correctly and there is little doubt over the results.

I am all for doing things right, but it is a typical republican that would spear no expense to try and maintain power. Even if it is the publics money. You are of to a good start there Eric.

or maybe it's a typical republican that thinks that elections should be fair and reflect the will of the people unlike the democrats who sponsor ACORN and the Chicago Democratic machine. Read Tip O'Neill's book describing in detail how they fixed the election of John Kennedy in Texas. Maybe that's why Republicans believe in "trust and verify."

I have been consistent on this matter since the beginning. I expect, and support a recount no matter what the result of the provisionals.

That means if Curley takes the lead and Mallet asks for a recount, I would fully support it.

Why are you so afraid of a recount?

O please, Republicans and Democrats both seam to bring out the dead when it comes time for a vote. To think that there is nothing funny going on one side or the other is just small minded. How typical, only democrats can be corrupt. That’s why there are so many incident Republicans in jail right now. hmmmm

I know a person that was a democrat when he lived up north Jersey and was given 5 different names and was told to were to go and vote. He would vote at 5 different locations. He finally seen the error of his ways and now votes Republican. This stuff really happens, but it is odd that it is usually (always) a democrat.
