I would like to make a formal request to all Republican County Chairs:
Either hold open and fair conventions, or do not award the county line at all.
Chairs can feel free to endorse whichever candidate they want, but do not award a line without a fair convention. And if you do not plan on holding a County Convention, then do not award anybody the line. Having committee's that recommend a certain candidate to County Committee members also seems like a silly and pointless idea. I am pretty sure County Committee folks are smart enough to know who the candidates are and do not need a star next to somebody's name to sway them.
Awarding a candidate a line without a Convention is simply unfair. County Committee Members should be given their right to vote on which candidate gets the county line, and each Gubernatorial candidate, along with candidates for other offices (Assembly, Freeholder, etc.), should have the right to compete in a fair process for the line.
I understand that some counties do not hold Conventions. That is fine, just do not award any candidate the line then. Warren County comes to mind because they usually do not hold conventions and do not award a line. This is the right and proper way to do this. That way no candidate feels slighted, no supporters feel undermined, and everyone has a fair shot.
Anything else will be viewed in a negative light and a "fix is in" type scenario. It will alienate members of the rank and file and anger the supporters of the candidates that are passed over, and rightfully so. We talk a lot about uniting the party and worry about the division that occurs in primary campaigns that are negative in nature. A major benefit of this is having candidates that win based on merit, rather than the perception of "back room" deals and an unfair process. This will be a positive step towards uniting the party after a contentious primary. Fair and open conventions or not rewarding a county line in the absence of a convention will present an inclusive feeling to all candidates, supporters, and rank and file members.
Please join me in telling your county chairs, along with others:
Hold open and fair conventions, or do not award the county line at all.
Let's get this right.

The day the party bosses support an open and fair process maybe corruption will end in this State. The party boss system is the biggest obsstacle to honest government. Dems may be worse but the GOP is a close second
You hit the nail on the head Eric, the county Chair should be a uniter, the face of the party out there for all to see. They should make the party work and let all voices be heard. Controlling the county and annointing candidates is not democracy at its best. Maybe Chairs should remember,THEY WERE ELECTED by county committee members. It is the good of the party they should have in mind not their own self interest.
Hey, you think it sounds like Joe Oxley You know you were thinking the same thing just didn,t want to say it out loud
