Breaking News: McMorrow NOT Running For Re-Election

Freeholder Director Barbara McMorrow will not run for re-election.

During Freeholder comments at today's workshop session a tearful McMorrow announced that due to health issues she will not seek a second term.

Reportedly the County Democrats have postponed their convention one week until Saturday April 4 to give candidates an opportunity to line up support.

McMorrow would have been tough to beat. Not it is a shoe in for Curley!

OOOPS I meant NOW it is a shoe in for Curley!

A blogger named Barry Goldwater predicted this months ago.

I miss that guy.

Wow. That to me is bigger news then if Pat Short don't run in Middletown. I think the Republicans have a good list of people running for Freeholder & this should help them. By the way, why wouldn't Pat Short run? Andrew Bane. P.S. I am running for Middletown School Board, so put out the good word for me. Thanks

I think it is a better shot for Kim Spatola. Don't sell her short. She is a worker, bright, young and can win!

Spatola may be a great person, but, who is she. Ask around. No one outside of her town, and perhaps some county political players in the Republican party, know who she is.

Curley has name recognition all over the county. He almost won even though some Republicans got their feelings hurt and voted Democrat. You know who you are!

Curley is the best shot and has lots of energy which is what this party needs. We need a well articulated message!

Nice to see the compassion here for someone who is sick.

What a disgusting display.

Half the Republicans in the County are now kicking themselves for not running.

Barbara was a strong candidate and a reason a lot of folks probably stayed out.

Kim Spatola will win on Saturday, the question is will the Democrats pull out a heavy duty candidate, maybe they will re run the traitor Cantor on the D side of the ballot.Don't rule out Honecker,or Hornig.Maybe they could run Pringle one more time.

Pat Walsh for freeholder! She has some great soures of street money!

The Democrats will put Brian Unger up. He seems to be the favorite lead.

Barbara is a class act, and the antithesis of the motley Monmouth County Dems. She is the one most Republicans would be glad to have in the fold. Maybe this is why Pat Short has been so secretive about running for re-election. They knew this a while ago and waited to see if it would be a factor. Sorry for Mrs. McMorrow that it apparently is.

Roth and Aaronson showed up at the mtg. last night, so guess the "bone-picking" begins, and unfotunately, the county'll now be run by two "Al Gore leftists", who blame the loss of ratables here on Washington, Bush, and corporate greed, not on monstrous, regressive taxes and socialism.. Barbara is a nice person who tried to be a moderating voice, but got drowned out and beaten down by her radical cronies and leaders, who want their paybacks NOW.. what a mess..so, get together, wake up, and fix it, folks!..

ROTH SHOWED UP AT THE MEETING BECAUSE SHE IS CONCERNED THAT WITH BARBARA MCMORROW OFF OF THE TOP OF THE TICKET HER CHANCES OF WINNING THE ASSEMBLY SEAT IS NEXT TO ZERO NOW. SHE IS NOT WELL RESPECTED OR LIKED BY THE RESIDENTS IN MANALAPAN. HER VICTORY IN NOVEMBER WAS BY JUST 300 VOTES AND IT WAS BECAUSE OF COVERED BRIDGE. hER CAUSTIC PERSONALITY IS LEGENDARY.

she is probably sick of the nasty attacks from the GOP machine. Shame the best people walk away from public service, but guess that is what the bottom feeders want

Is Morehead still going to run for Assembly in the 13th?

hmmmm. No mention of the fact that the dems cut $7,000,000 last night and the GOP voted against it. Time to switch parties when the GOP caves into unions and it is the dems that make the cuts. Even with the cuts when you add the pensions and rich benefit plans these people are paid far more then similar private sector jobs

Great job Barbara, John and Amy. You did what you had to do in front of a hostile crowd who wouldn't give up their 3.5 percent raises to save their buddies. We are all proud of you.

Yes Mr. Morehead is still running in the 13th. At last report that is.

Any other names being floated for the Dems in 13th???

someone has to unseat Handlin....

Barry - You are greatly missed..please come back.

Ambro - Did anyone say anything bad about Barbara here?

The Democrats must be desperate for candidates if they are running that buffoon Morehead. Amy Handlin must be ordering the champagne for the victory party right now.

it's too bad some don't know that the one freeholder candidiate is couched, on the 2009 ballot for November, under the second assembly candidate, and above whichever towns have a local Nov. race, this year.. so, if all "R" assemblypeople, in all 5 Monmouth districts, and the local "R's" below him do ok, then MAYbe the one county guy does ok..if it's another failure for the "R's in such towns locally, it is NOT as easy as the naiive ones think!..the focus needs to be on getting out better local "R" turnouts in tough towns like Marlboro and Manalapan, (heaven help us!), as both will be doing their usual vicious local contests!..therein lies the success or failure of one county guy this year, and, again, county control..

For pure entertainment value, Pat Short for freeholder would be superior. Imagine the freak show: Corzine for governor, Matt Morehead for Assembly, Short for Freeholder and Jim whatshisname for Middletown T.C. It would be like a reunion of patients from the Marlboro Psychiatric Center.

let's hope Mrs. McMorrow beats her illness, and that the Dems don't come up with another well-funded, lefty mouthpiece for Flippy and Cryan: or worse, another well-liked, "crossover"-type.. it's just too frightening at the county, now..we can hope they dump their dough somewhere else, but for 3 years it has helped to kill us in the last week...dig deep, anyone who's still working!.. he'll need it...
