With Barbara McMorrow withdrawing from the Freeholder race, State Democratic Chairman Joe Cryan is scambling to find a candidate who can help him keep control of the Monmouth County purse stings.
His challenge is to find a woman that Republicans will ♥, who will also play ball with the Trenton Democrats.
The only person I can think of that fits the mold is Bill Barham's sister-in-law; Port Authority Commissioner, Former Commerce Secretary, 9/11 widow and all around heavy hitter Virginia Bauer of Red Bank.
Could Cryan want Monmouth so badly that he would impose upon Bauer to seek a lowly Freeholder post? He already got a former Judge and former Parole Board Commissioner, John D'Amico, to "go back" to being a Freeholder. Would Bauer even consider it? I have no idea, but I bet someone will approach her today, if they haven't already.

She's being considered to run for Lieutenant Governor with Corzine. You must be joking.
How about that guy Tobin from Tinton Falls?
How about Brynes from Middletown???
Ha! Byrnes??? That guy must really want that judgeship if he is willing to sacrifice his law practice to run for freeholder. The guy can't handle one town, now he's going to go after a county? I'm sure he'd be thrilled to be on a ticket with Matt "give me low-income housing" Morehead.
Sean Byrnes is articulate and respected for his common-sence knowledge. I would imagine the lack of coverage for Sean on this blog show the deep rooted worries amoung the county GOP that Monmouth County will remain in strong, capable hands.
Quite the contrary Steve.
While Sean did not send me an announcement, I became aware of his candidacy yesterday through the Politickernj site.
I haven't written about it hear because I don't want to jinx his changes on Saturday. I think he will be a great candidate...for my side.
If he wins on Saturday, I'll cover it.
So we are going to have no good choice for Freeholder or governor in 2009. At least with the presidential race the least bad choice - McCain - was not totally useless. This year in NJ whoever we pick will be just another politicial flunky.
The funny thing about guys like Steve Borberly and other local Democrats is that they just don't get it. They can't see what a disaster their party has been for the state, and it goes right down to the county and local levels. You have a slimeball like Joe Cryan with his hands in Monmouth County, you have equally sleazy people like Matt Morehead, Pat Short and Pat Walsh constituting the local Democrat Party, Corzine is a disaster, Vas, James, Hackett and Co. are in jail or on their way and you say the GOP is worried? Give me a break. No wonder you guys worship Byrnes - he's the only one who can string a sentence together and except for using Middletown as a stepping stone to a judgeship and some conflicts of interest with his law practice, hasn't been associated with any type of scandal - yet.
"He already got...John D'Amico, to "go back" to being a Freeholder."
Go back? Or is "flip" a more accurate term?
PolitickerNJ mentions now Mike Beson, former mayor of Neptune, who's been endorsed by Pallone.
