Caliendo Puts All His Chips On The Table

The Middletown Democratic Party is taking a huge risk in this uncoming election.

With Sean Byrnes stepping up to take Barbara McMorrow's position on the ballot for Freeholder, Pat Short seeking re-election to township committee and Jim Whatshisname running for Assembly, Chairman Joe Caliendo has his three strongest candidates all on the ballot this year. The likelihood of all three being beaten by embarrassing margins is not unthinkable.

What will be left of the "loyal opposition" in Middletown should all three get crushed?

Here's my predicion for the 2010 Democratic ticket for Middletown Township Committee: Middletown Mike Morris and Matt "The Voice of Youth" Morehead.

Art,

Very funny post, I enjoyed it.
I am impressed that you think so much of me, that you think Caliendo would have me run for township committee in 2010.

The Middletown Democrats will not be embarrassed come November, Pat Short and Sean Brynes are very strong candidates and the people of Middletown have been finding out that for the past 3 years Short and Brynes have been looking out for them.

In the unlikely event that Brynes loses to Curley, he will be seeking re-election in Middletown in 2010 and I am sure that his runningmate will be a woman because Joe Caliendo believes in a balanced ticket.

For your information, I have NO intention of ever running for office. I am very happy and content being behind the scenes.

All the best,

Mike Morris

PS.
I would have posted this directly as a comment, but don't have direct access to the blog.

mike, you say that "the people of Middletown have been finding out that for the past 3 years Short and Brynes have been looking out for them".
I would disagree with that statement. It would be more accurate to say that you, Caliendo, Walsh, etc ... and Short himself have been banging the going and telling Middletown that Short and Byrnes have been looking out for them.
I have not seen anything of substance from them.
Also, i love how Caliendo makes things up. He said in his press release for Byrnes that" Byrnes blocked Republican Party attempts at undoing the revaluation in Middletown." WHAT??

they've thrown Caliendo a bone. They know the top of the ticket will be a huge republican majority. They know that without Barbara they can't win the freeholder seat, and even if they had a chance, the democrats are going to lose by such an alarming number in the 12th district -- a district without which they can't win the freeholder race -- that they have wiped out any chance they had. How many votes do you think their 12th district assembly candidate is going to get -- who earns her living exploiting racism, has antagonized the Italian American community, the Orthodox Jewish Community, the Police Union, the Asian community, several homeowners associations in her own town, raised taxes a whopping 50% in two years with much more to come this year, was caught wasting taxpayers money to benefit friends' land interests, has spent fifty thousand dollars of taxpayers money to go after a political enemy over a 10,000 land cleanup for which SHE was actually responsible and is now in the process of antagonizing certain people who have strong influence in the local fire departments. The dems think she is an adequate candidate because she won reelection last year by 400 votes. She had lost in 2004 after nearly driving Manalapan to insolvency, by 2400 votes to an unknown. The only reason she won reelection is because Manalapan's republican municipal chairman sabatoged the republican candidates to throw her the election. That isn't to happen in the assembly race. Seriously, could the democrats have picked worse candidates? Scudiery has simply stroked Caliendo in a year in which he knows he can't win anything anyway. Now for years to come he will have an excuse for not accepting Caliendo's candidates.

Mike makes a very good point. Sean Byrnes WILL BE on the Middletown ticket next year, since he obviously won't be a freeholder.

Who's kidding who? The minute Byrnes gets his judgeship, he's outta here! This guy is the proverbial political social climber and he is out for one thing and one thing only - securing a state pension! And Art, on what basis have you deemed "whathisname" a strong candidate? The only experience he brings is having played lacrosse in college a hundred years ago, and his ability to throw the fear of God into those around him at public meetings that he may go postal at any moment.

I didn't say he was a strong candiate. I said he was one of Caliendo's three strongest. There's a big difference.

I see your point. I guess when Caliendo's stable of candidates has included such pillars of virtue as Irv Beaver, Larry Loigman, Pat Short and Alex DeSevo - whathisname suddenly moves up by default.

when Vic Morgano ran for sheriff, the entire democratic party knew that Vic, who came very close, lost only because Caliendo didn't deliver. He never does. He's in charge of the largest block of democratic votes in the County and he's useless. Many people think he's more responsible for the prolonged republican success in this county than Vic Scudiery. This may be the party's way of finally getting rid of him.

The Honest Abe Research Foundation has been directed to check out Sean Byrnes. Sean, if you aren't familiar with the Honest Abe Research Foundation I have two words for you: Lenny Inzerillo.

Michelle Roth should be careful that the lies she tells to John Amberg her assembly running mate do not come back to bite her in a the ass. He will find out the truth about you, your deliberate refusal to address the Italaian American slur "I hate Italians" your husband Larry made and how you treat your public.

Mr. Amberg you need to reach out to her former running mate. Let him enlighten you as to who you've just aligned yourself with!

I do not know this Roth lady or know of most of the allegations against her but I must say I find it ridiculous that she is held responsible for comments her husband made about Italians.

If my wife were held responsible for everything I said the poor women would have to go into hiding.

She did not apologize for her husbands remark that he made at her township committee meeting. She knew that it became a hot issue in her town and she allowed for it to escalate. A simple statement immediately following his remarks would have squashed the uproar, but she refused. It goes to her character and that is the real issue. Her character.

if Roth did nothing, that would have been one thing. But she didn't. She could easily have just said her husband misspoke, or was misinterpreted or whatever. She didn't Instead, she attacked the Italians who were upset, went on 101.5 on St. Patricks Day to blame an irish municipal chairman for starting the whole thing (somehow her husband was apparently controlled by this municipal chairman from the other party) and showed anger at everyone else -- as is her style -- rather than the appropriate contriteness. She is a vicious vindictive petty woman and this is merely one incident that showed who she was. She is the most despised politician in Manalapan and this will manifest itself once the rest of the district gets to meet her. Just wait until they see what she's done with Manalapan's taxes and how she's spent the money.

Is this what we call a Manalapalanche?

Why should anyone apologize for what their spouse says or be faulted for defending their spouse.
The entire thing was just politics and is rather stupid.

for the record. I do not live in Manalapan do not know Roth am not a democrat.

If you are a leader, you need to show leadership. If your spouse goes to a meeting where you are a member of the five person township committee and he says something stupid, that is a reflection on you. If you go on the radio and defend the dumb statement and blame other people for it, it shows something about your character.
