Bateman May Challenge Chris Smith

Alan Bateman, former Deputy Mayor of Holmdel and 12th District Congressional candidate last year, told Politickernj that he is considering mounting a primary challenge to 4th District GOP Congressman Chris Smith, rather than seek the 2010 GOP nomination to challenge Rush Holt in CD 12.

Bateman's Holmdel home has been on the market for six months and he wants to move into the 4th district, according to the Politickernj article.

Bateman said that Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre's candidacy for that CD 12 nod "has no impact on his decision."

Halfacre will be appearing on WOR-TV's on Sunday July 19, noon, to discuss the gubernatorial race, Obama's visit and speculation over LG candidates.

I was willing to support Bateman but going after Smith is political suicide. makes me wonder about his judgment.
Plus I know its not required but he does not even live in the district.

I believe you don't have to live there if you run, only if you win.. what a waste of a good record and time, does anyone know Smith's reason for throwing in with cap and tax??.. so sad and unnecessary, now we stand to lose yet another seat..

Did smiths office send out a pelease?
I think Art should try to get an interview with Smith.

Just because I disagree with him on Cap and trade does not mean I am going to abandon him.

Cap and Trade was not a minor issue. No republican who voted for it should ever be supported by the party again.

There are issues more important then cap and trade

I live in the 4th. I've always supported Chris but was astonished at his vote on Cap and Tax.

It's a shame that Bateman may not seek the Republican nomination in the 12th District. It would have been nice to have a conservative in the race. Halfacre is pro-abortion and way too liberal for me.
