FAIR HAVEN MAYOR HALFACRE TO ANNOUNCE 2010 CONGRESSIONAL BID

Fair Haven Mayor Michael Halfacre will hold two press conferences on Tuesday July 7th to announce his decision to challenge Rep. Rush Holt for his seat in the House of Representatives in New Jersey Congressional District 12 next year.

“In his 10 years in Congress, Rush Holt has been ineffective on matters big and small throughout the 12th Congressional District and has compiled a voting record which is not representative of the district he represents”, said Halfacre. “At a time when Americans of all political stripes are growing increasingly concerned about record federal spending and ever expanding government involvement in the private sector, I believe my record as a tax cutting fiscal conservative will be an attractive alternative.”

TIME: 11:00am

PLACE: Fair Haven Borough Hall
748 River Road, Fair Haven

125 West State Street

Whenever I hear a New Jersey Republican boasting that he is a “fiscal conservative,” it almost always means that he is a liberal when it comes to social issues like abortion, gay rights, embryonic stem cell research, the Second Amendment, etc.

Incidentally, if Mike Halfacre is a conservative, why would he choose to have Jennifer Beck standing next to him when he announces that he is running for Congress? Not only is Jennifer Beck a liberal, she is a coward as well. (e.g., Just last month Beck abstained rather than vote for or against a gun control bill that was before the NJ Senate.)

If Mike Halfacre wants my support, he will have to distance himself considerably from the likes of Senator Jennifer Beck.

Jennifer Beck is a hypocrite. She claims to be pro-choice when it comes to abortion. In reality, however, Jennifer Beck only supports those who choose to have an abortion. She doesn’t support someone who chooses not to have anything whatsoever to do with abortion. Case in point: While a member of a NJ General Assembly, then Assemblywoman Beck voted in support of a bill (now a law) that makes it illegal for a pharmacist in New Jersey to refuse to fill a prescription on the basis of that pharmacist’s deeply held moral and/or religious views. Thanks to Jennifer Beck, pro-life pharmacists are now required to fill prescriptions for drugs that induce abortions even when the life of the mother is not at risk. Thanks to Jennifer Beck, Catholic pharmacists that might otherwise simply decline to fill a prescription that would end a human life are now legally denied that opportunity. Thanks to supposedly “pro-choice” Jennifer Beck, Catholic pharmacists in New Jersey now face excommunication and the loss of their livelihoods simply for choosing to defend innocent human life.

Well here come the Liberal bashers of one of the best Senators we have in the State. Jennifer Beck has been there for all the towns in her District. Michael Halfacre will also be there when the Municipalities he represents need him. Rush Holt is the invisible man in Monmouth County.

The Republican party must come to grips with what type of party it wants to be. These posts illustrate that. Is it going to be a party of Fiscal conservatives and social liberals or a party of both fiscal and social conservatives
It can no longer be both because it is tearing itself up.
Michael Halfacre will be an anaethma to social conservatives and that will most likely lead to him loosing. He is clearly to the far left on social issues that social conservatives care about. I do not write this as an indictment merely as an observation. I like a lot about Halfacre but he is missing some things very important to me. I will have to make a decision as to wether electing a fiscal conservative to replace Holt is worth it for me to vote or will i just stay home. Is half a loaf better then none, especially when I care more about the social issues? It is a tough choice for me. For me Mike Pappas is the greatest congressman that ever lived and I would vote for a Chris Smith before a Mike Halfacre.
What this country really needs is 3 or 4 viable parties so that everyone can find a place where they are happy.

I am not at all surprised that Mike Halfacre has agreed to become the sacrificial lamb of the Republican party in next year’s race against Congressman Rush Holt. Some guys will do anything in order to become a New Jersey Superior Court Judge.

Halfacare has only one shot - that the economy still sucks and Obama's approvals are in the tank. Holt has also always had a lot of trouble in Monmouth either usually losing it or narrowly charying it. He needs a big turnout in Monmouth and needs to win at least 65% here and keep numbers low for Holt in Mercer.

Can someone please explain to me how Mike Halfacre is, quote, clearly to the far left on social issues that social conservatives care about? How the eff do you know that?

Its bad enough some of you people wont vote for anyone who doesnt agree with you on every single issue, but now you wont support someone who you ASSUME you dont agree with? And yet you'd vote for the most liberal Republican in Congress, Chris Smith, just because he's pro life ( and I'm not saying thats a bad thing...in my world, theres room for the Chris Smiths, conservatives and moderates).

Baffling.

Thus here is the problem with New Jersey Republicans in a nutshell.

They bash Michael Halfacre and may actually "stay home" and let one of the most Liberal members of the House win.

UNREAL!!!!

Anonymous said...

are the anonymous posters who are bashing Jen Beck realize she has won in a district that is very similar to the 12th? that shares many of the same towns?

yes, criticize the winners. some conservatives are so much happier complaining about their party than they would be if they ever won an election.

of course, that is a hypothetical, "real" conservatives can't win in NJ

Welcome to the NJ Republican Party. The most viable candidate for this seat in a decade, at the time of his announcement, is already labeled as "Too liberal" and they ask "Is he conservative enough?"

Last I checked, this is the republican party. ASk yourselves this:

Is he Republican enough?"

from what I have seen, absolutely, yes.

check out the guy's website. Very impressive, he could clean Holt's clock

Halfacre rocks. Fair havens loss will be the 12th districts gain.

I just took a look at Mike Halfacre's own web site:

Mike Halfacre For Congress

I was particularly interested in the section entitled "On The Issues." I was disappointed that Mayor Halfacre didn't mention his position on the issues of abortion, gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research, a moment of silence in schools and a host of other important social issues.

I will be interested in seeing if Mayor Halfacre actually addresses these issues or not. I will be interested in seeing if Mike Halfacre actually turns out to be the conservative that he claims to be. In the meantime, I am not holding out much hope. Mayor Halfacre's silence on the issues mentioned above is rather telling, particularly when you consider that Mr. Halfacre also boasts of being endorsed by liberal cheerleaders like Jennifer Beck.

Although I am reserving judgement for now, I fear that Mike Halfacre, much like Chris Christie, will be a conservative only when it is politically convenient.

I'd be impressed, if anyone close to Halfacre can tell us,if he,in fact, (since it appears, a whole year early, that he'll likely get "the party line" for the Cong. dist.12 primary, from the Chair next year), had the class to at least ask Alan Bateman to be there to endorse him, since many of us understood Alan would be trying again next year, against Holt, after a respectable showing in a very bad '08!.. and, I agree with those who are sick of "going along to get along," with all these "moderates," like McCain, Dole, Whitman, Christie,Beck,on and on, many of whom did NOT win, they were all we Conservatives had, so we fell in line, again stifling what our party is SUPPOSED to stand for, to be a marked difference between freedom and socialism!..if Webber and Christie capitulate too far in '09, yet again, we will meet the same end as Forrester, et al: if NO diff. in a Dem state, they usually stay Dem, while the tired and disgusted Conserv's, some of them, do stay home..and,if you can support efforts to stop abuse and killing of dogs and cats, you can sure as hell support all efforts to stop abuse and killing of human children-period!!.. what part of "it's just plain WRONG" don't they get??

I know Halfacre is far left on Social issues that social conservatives care about because I know Mike Halfacre. I have interacted with him. I know what types of republicans he supports.
Thats how I "effing" Know.
I am also pretty sure he was the Blogger Barry Goldwater and "Goldwater was pretty open about his disdain for Social and religous Conservatives. If I am mistaken I am sure the Mayor will correct me.
Look I am not knocking Halfacre or attacking him. He is entitled to his positions. The fact is however if you care about the social issues more then anything else then it is very hard to get motivated to vote for someone who is a social liberal. In fact there is a n argument to be made from a social conservatives perspective that a liberal social republican is worse then a liberal democrat because they will if elected push your party in a direction you dislike and then you will have no place to go politically speaking.
Before I am attacked for that, note that I said there is an argument to be made not that I agreed or disagreed with it.

so now Halfacre is "far left" on social issues?

Give us a break, Alan.

Face it, no matter what he says about social issues, you guys would pick on him. It looks like a sharp, well put together website, (compared to Alan's POS)that will surely serve him well with the majority of voters.

Regarding "conservatives" versus "social conservative", I have to break it to you, but there are more serious things in this country (like an economy, the national defense) than gays, abortions and stem cells. Social issues are kind of luxury items when the economy is hurting and the country is at war. Of course, they say a lot about the candidate's character, but they don't matter that much in national politics. Even if the Republican candidate is as far left on social issues as the Democrat, at that point they cancel each other and you have to start looking at the positions on real issues. Whining about social issues right now is pretty much equal to watching non-stop Jackson rememberance coverage while there's a coup in Honduras, 200 people die in China riots and Iraqis take control of Baghdad.

Anon....Bateman had a "Respectable showing" in 2008.....Check your numbers. He lost 62% to 36%. Time for Alan to move on and grow up. Michael Halfacre will give Holt a good run and I wouldn't be surprised if he beats him. Give the guy a chance.

Anonymous said...

I'm certainly glad Ronald Reagan didn't feel the need to "move on and grow up" after losing to Gerald Ford in 1976.

Run, Bateman, run!

Halfacre may be Goldwater? He's got my vote.

Judge a man by what he does, not by what he says.

Research Halfacre's views on the Boy Scouts of America when he served as the Fair Haven Bd. of Ed. attorney and successfully ousted the Cub Scouts.

Research Halfacre's tenure on both that school board and then the borough council. He resigned from both elected seats early to take paying jobs for them, as the board attorney and then the municipal prosecutor.

Research his arrogance when things do not go his way. To think he would be civil to Bateman is just not the way he operates.

Note that his blog is no longer interactive. Some of his posts there were very interesting. Seems the interaction ended when the campaign mgr. was brought on board and must have noticed the man's short fuse could spell disaster.

And let's not forget his infamous tweets on the Pay-to-Play express train (aka Chamber trip) to D.C. this past winter. How much money has he already raised for his campaign?

Actions speak louder than words.
Holt must be salivating. Run, Alan Bateman, run. Please.

Hey anon above, do your homework.

1) Halfacre defended his client, the school board, when they wanted to exclude the discriminatory boy scouts from their building. Good for hom/them for stocking up for the rights of the oppressed.

2) don't confuse leadership with arrogance.

3) as I recall, his tweets were critical of the demand who are ruining our state. So he speaks his mind, good for him.

Halfacre also gave up a paying job as school board arty to run for mayor, a job that pays nothing.

I think those actions speak volumes, and will carry the day.

very interesting and well-said, anon. 10:21..also disturbing, as I have an Eagle Scout and support the Boy and Girl Scouts, and am sick of the miserable ACLU ruining them, at every turn!..when I saw the photos being posted of the "runner," I wondered about the ego, there..well, it's 11 mos.away, Alan can go pound the pavement and meet real voters, and give the guy a "run" for his money..it's criminal we haven't been able to oust the unimpressive,ultra-lib Holt, up to now, anyway!..

Anonymous said...

I certainly hope Alan Bateman decides to run. It would be nice to have a conservative in the race. Mike Halfacre is a pro-abortion liberal. On important social issues, Halfacre has more in common with Jim McGreevey than he does with Ronald Reagan.
