Maybe I pissed someone off. I can't imagine who.
Maybe it was a "random visit" as the investigator with a badge and business card explained when I asked "they are sending you out to see if businesses have their tax ID on display?" He said he had other investigations in the area and has a quota of random visits, check the ID #'s and then check to see that everything is compliant. The form he was filling out was blank. I must have been the first random visit of the day, during the mid afternoon.
He said they've been shutting businesses down. Hmmm. This could be fun.
In 11 years in business I've never had such a visit or heard of such visits. I used to be the president of a regional chamber of commerce. You'd think I would have heard about this before.
Either way, it is going to fun to find out more about these visits and how random they actually are. It will be even more fun writing about it. Stay tuned.

Good luck, the NJ tax division is worse than the IRS. They need to collect more money to support their own salaries & benefits due to budget cuts.
Could it be linked to your blog being heavily accessed from DC?

Thanks. Everything is in order, so I hope I don't need luck. That's why I think this will be fun, especially if it was a political visit.
