Sipprelle: My boss made me do it.

Scott Sipprelle, a CD 12 candidate for the GOP nomination has been telling Republican club and county committee members that he donated to NY Senator Chuck Schumer's coffers because his boss at Morgan Stanley told all the junior associates to do so.

John A. Mennella, a law enforcment officer and Republcian from East Brunswick, reported on the Christie Supporters for Halfacre facebook page,
Spoke to Sipprelle last night at function in East Brunswick. Asked him about why he gave donations to Chuckie Cheese Schumer, and his response was because the senior partner at Morgan Stanley told all the junior associates to donate. He went on to say that he resigned from there because of it.

I asked him if he resigned before or after he donated, and he stated he donated then resigned.

Mennella told MoreMonmouthMusings that he was not satisfied with Sipprelle's explanation that he donated under pressure and then quit. He wonders how Sipprelle would stand up to pressure from Nancy Pelosi or President Obama.

Menella may have good reason to be unsatisfied with Sipprelle's explanation. According to his Linked In page, Sipprelle left Morgan Stanley in 1998. He donated to Schumer in 2002 while a hedge fund manager at Midtown Capital Partners.

Keep letting Middlesex County Republicans out of the loon bin and we will never win an election--they have the record to prove it.

Scott Sipprelle is no Scott Brown. He would be better off to run in the democrat party - that's where he has been giving his "hard-earned" money to.

Scott Sipprelle .. just what we need ..NOT!

This petty crap by party insiders is why many real Republicans are looking for a new party. You back a Congressman who votes for cap and trade but care about a few dollars in campaign contributions. Sipprelle's got my vote. The fact Halfacre is throwing this garbage at the wall shows he can not attack Sipprelle on the issues or his credentials

look let's face facts many businessmen give to both sides. if you are in the financial industry it pays to keep on schumers good side. I can forgive that.
However if (BIG IF) the story here is true it means sipperelle lied. that is a problem

If you are looking for a lie, look no further than Mike Halfacre's website under endorsements. Asking people to go to your press conference to announce your candidacy does not mean you give an endorsement. I am an elected official in Monmouth County whose name is on that website and I can assure you I never made an endorsement for Mike Halacre. I'll go one step further to say that 99% of the names on that website have never officially endorsed Mike Halfacre.

People should not throw stones when they live in glass houses. Especially stones at other Republicans which should never be tolerated. Run on the issues.

New rule: If you claim to be an elected official you must identify yourself or your comment will not be posted.

Halfacre told me that he spoke on the phone with everyone on his list, and several who declined to be on the list, prior to releasing the list.

Either he lied to me, which I doubt, because some of the list have verified he spoke with them, or the anonymous poster is lying.

If you're willing to go on the record and you have Halfacre in a lie, I'll make that a story just as I did about Sipprelle and the timing of his Schumer donation.

let me get this straight...a blog post on some Halfacre website as recounted by some Halfacre whacko is reprinted as news?

Art, you just lost any credibility.

Remember this comment. It is a bold, fresh, flat-out, LIE. This will be clear before too long.

But do you REALLY have Sipprelle in a lie, Art? All you have is a Halfacre supporter claiming Sipprelle said this to him.

Let me straighten it out for you secret sally.

The story came from multiple sources. Mennella went on the record with it, both in his facebook post and in a conversation on the phone with me.

Sipprelle and his team have easy access to this blog. They could issue a denial or explanation. Their problem is too many people heard Scott say it.

Art, this is really hearsay and conjecture at this point.

No, it is not. The story came from a credible source.

Scott Sipprelle is a high road Republican. With all the mud Mike is throwing at him,Scott has yet to say one unkind word about Mike Halfacre.Speak with Scott and he has nothing but kind words for our Fair Haven Mayor.Over the years I have found mud slinging to be the death knoll for failing candidates.Clean it up Mike your a class act!

Mike 'won' his mayoral seat from an unfunded independent incumbent by only a 200 vote margin ...not even a contest, and he couldn't even get a mandate. He is a one-time mayor not even popular in his hometown. He can't even get an 100%endorsement from his GOP borough's council. That should tell you something.

You can just smell the desperation on the Sipprelle people.

The fact that they would stoop to lying in an anonymous blog post from an "elected official" to create the illusion that his Monmouth support is stronger than it is...read between the lines. Good on ya for calling them out Art.

Many of you have never worked a job where company executives are required to give to politicians. There are many reasons why this is done but the main one is to keep the government off the companies back. Why do you think the Clinton administration went after Microsoft? Look how involved Gates is now.

It's extortion by politicians. I don't see this as an issue.

a lot of the anti-halfacre comments have a decidedly "rasta-like" tone to them, if you know what I mean.

It will be interesting to see who comes out against him.

sad the anyone this this is a story relevent to the primary. Monmouth Couty republican party players sound like a bunch of 2 year olds. That alone gives reason to vote for an outsider like Sipprelle

Mr. Republican said...

I will say this if there really are a bunch of republican leaders who are going to support Sipperelle then they should get off their FAT CAT asses and do it now. In fact even if they going to support Halfacre tell us one way or the other. I say this because apparently the only thing that will stop this incessant sniping is for onr of the candidates to get overwhelming momentum.
So come on all you so called le3aders. MAKE A CALL>

Michael Gooch is one of Halfacre's financial backers. Gooch has also given a lot of money away to Democrats running for office. When Halfacre returns the money that Gooch gave him, then I might be interested in listening to his criticism of Sipprelle's campaign contributions. Until then, Halfacre is just a hypocrite -- and a desperate one at that.

Run, Scott, run!

What a great point! Thanks for pointing this out.

I'm not an expert on campaign financing, but I see a slight difference between yourself donating money to the opposing party, and receiving donations from someone who donated to both parties. I mean, when you have hundreds or thousands of donors, chances are pretty high someone also donated to the other party.

No candidate is perfect.

If we all pull together, we can beat Holt with Sipprelle, his financial resources, and his obvious intellect and attractive personality.

I am not so sure we could accomplish this with Halfacre.

Just being pragmatic and honest, folks.

If I owned a business and had an issue that would be impacted by some legislative act I would try to influence anyone who would listen or help. If I were in New Jersey, which I am, or New York, which I ain’t, it would take too much time and effort to find a conservative Republican that could actually do anything, so hit up as many Democrats along the way, maybe they can help, and you never find that out by being a narrow-minded person. If it fails, then do not attempt it again, simple and pragmatic advice. I want to see a sustained pattern and proven evidence to change my mind on this particular issue, not on one individual statement based on hearsay about the Sen. Schumer situation. I must say, though, if you want to do business in New York, Sen. Schumer is the person to cajole.
