From the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office:
Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno has announced the appointment of Shaun Golden to Acting Monmouth County Sheriff. Golden has served in the role of undersheriff with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office since June, 2008. As undersheriff, Golden has been in charge of the Monmouth County Regional 9-1-1 Communications Center and the operation of communications and computer networking equipment for county and municipal agencies. Golden has been instrumental in promoting and implementing shared services with towns at cost saving measures through the 9-1-1 Communications Center. In addition, his responsibilities include the management of the new countywide wireless communications network and the development of the proposed state of the art emergency communications building. "I'm honored to be appointed acting sheriff of Monmouth County and look forward to leading this innovative, nationally accredited agency," said Shaun Golden.
Sheriff Kim Guadagno, who will take the oath of office as New Jersey's first lieutenant governor January 19, 2010, is proud to have Golden lead the agency. "Shaun has my full support and I leave the office knowing the people of Monmouth County will be well served by a career law enforcement officer."
Golden, a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, brings with him a wealth of experience in law enforcement and public administration. He was a career law enforcement officer for 18 years, graduating number one in his class at the Monmouth County Police Academy. Golden started out as a police officer with the Colts Neck Police Department, before moving on to the Toms River Police Department in that same capacity. In Toms River, he headed up the information and technology office and assisted in establishing the municipal paid EMS program. Golden worked as a certified paramedic for MONOC, serving Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and was a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Golden holds a master's degree in administration from Seton Hall University, is a NJ Certified Public Manager and an adjunct professor at Monmouth University with the Department of Political Science and Public Policy. "As Acting Monmouth County Sheriff, it will be my duty to serve the public and to ensure the safety and security of the people who live in Monmouth County."
Golden will serve as acting sheriff until Governor Elect Chris Christie officially announces the appointment of sheriff. That appointment must then receive consent from the N.J. State Senate.
The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office is comprised of three divisions: Law Enforcement, Corrections and Communications. The agency is nationally accredited in all major areas of operation including law enforcement, corrections, correctional healthcare, youth detention center, youth detention center healthcare and the 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center.

Bravo! After watching Monmouth County Dems go so far as to create positions for political cronies, it is to the credit of Kim Guadagno and the county Republicans that instead of handing the job to an insider, they gave it to the person most qualified for the job. This is a sign that Guadagno, and, if they support this appointment, our local Republicans, get that taxpayers have had it with politics as usual. I really hope that this is a sign of change in the way things get done.
huh? this guy is weak.
Mickey, hang in, you still have a shot at the screening..
Shaun Golden is an accomplished law enforcement professional and the best person for the position (aside from the Lt. Gov)based on qualifications, experience and training. Congradulations to Shaun who is also a quality person.

Does the Monmouth GOP get any say in this? After all, this person is going to have to get elected later this year. We can't afford to lose any of the traction we just started to gain back.
Look, Mickey Donovan has 30 years of a sterling law enforcement career, has walked the Rep walk and does NOT have to play catch-up, in the next 2 months!
There are a lot more qualified candidates who have paid their dues too. Being a cop in colts neck and toms river hardly separates one from the pack.
"Does the Monmouth GOP get any say in this? "
Of course they do. golden got it because that is what the GOP establishment asked for. Guadagno, Oxley, Burry all wanted him. (at least that is what I have heard)I am sure other party leaders wanted him also.
I am sure Golden can do the job but
If you do not like the guy for some reason don't blame Christy.
Guadagno and Burry yes.. Oxley, don't think so.. let the steering comm. choose..and, btw, what happened to earning it both professionally AND politically, that's the system and the electoral process!!
