Vincent Solomeno, 24 of Hazlet, seeking Monmouth Dem Freeholder Nomination

Hazlet resident Vincent Solomeno, 24, sent a letter on intent to Monmouth Democratic Chairman Victor Scudiery for the purpose of running for Freeholder this November.

In his letter to Scudiery, Solomeno said,

Since our meeting last November, I’ve visited with elected officials, party leaders, and private citizens to hear their ideas and concerns. They share my belief that we can regain our majority on the Freeholder Board through an energetic grassroots campaign that focuses on stabilizing property taxes, preserving open space, and aggressively pursuing opportunities to bring new businesses – and the jobs that come with them – to Monmouth County.

In communities from Matawan to Brielle and Allentown to Oceanport, I’m consistently hearing that people have lost faith in government’s ability to solve the public policy challenges that grow more pressing with each passing day. I am seeking the nomination for Freeholder because I believe we can do better. We can restore trust in government by continuing the change begun in 2009 and demonstrating through our actions, not just our words, that Monmouth Democrats are serious about reforming the way Freehold does business.

I am optimistic about the future of Monmouth County and it will be my honor to be part of an effort that translates that optimism into real results.

Solomeno is a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve where he serves as a platoon leader in the Corps of Engineers. As a civilian contractor, he works as a Logistics and Operations Manager for U.S. Army Global Positioning Systems. He is President of the Hazlet Democratic Club as well as a member of American Legion Raritan Post No. 23and the Monmouth Conservation Foundation.

He has a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Scranton, and is the recipient of the Harry S Truman Scholarship and the J. William Fulbright Fellowship. As a Fulbright Fellow, he earned his M.A. in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam for his study of Islamic radicalization in the Netherlands. He also worked as a Truman Summer Fellow in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Representative Frank Pallone, where he specialized in health care and food safety issues.

Vincent was elected senator of Boys Nation in 2002. He lost the Boys Nation presidency to Bradley Johnson of Cary, North Carolina.

Solomeno owns a home in Hazlet, where he lives with his Golden Retriever, Buddy.

He sounds more like Rob Clifton than John D'Amico.

pretty impressive for 24..all we hear is, it's still gonna be D'Amico and Byrnes, who's been nowhere,vs. Clifton and ???.. interesting..maybe they're waiting to see if Brown wins in Mass., then Dems'll likely be having an all-around crappy year..(hope,hope!)

impressive background but no chance in hell Caliendo and Gopal won't support Byrnes, which will essentially means the kid has 0% chance.
