In honor of the final regular season Jets
The Auditor is told Corzine at first wanted to go onto the field, but then didn’t. He was willing to be announced, but then wasn’t, worrying about boos. He wasn’t willing to go out if he was joined by Christie, who, along with Codey, was a guest of team owner Woody Johnson.
Shuttle diplomacy ensued. Corzine would go on the field, but not be introduced. Christie would stay away. Then, a change of heart: Corzine would not go, but said Christie could if he wanted. Christie and Codey did, without being announced, as fans cheered past Jets heroes.
Johnson and his aides were flabbergasted. Codey and Christie declined comment, but Corzine’s spokesman, Robert Corrales, said the governor had a good reason to punt. "Politicians on the field is not exactly Governor Corzine’s idea of half-time entertainment," he said, "especially with a crowd that wasn’t thrilled about the ban on beer sales."
