CD 6 candidate Diane Gooch and CD 12 candidate Scott Sipprelle picked up the party lines in Franklin Township for the GOP primaries to challenge Frank Pallone (CD 6) and Rush Holt (CD 12)at last night's Somerset County Convention. Incumbent Leonard Lance, CD 7 will be on the line throughout the rest of Somerset.

On the first ballot in the CD 6 portion of Franklin, Gooch was tied 3-3 with Highlands Mayor Anna Little, with Shannon Wright getting 2 votes. On the second ballot Gooch won 5-3.

In CD 12, Sipprelle won on the first ballot, 12-4.

Sipprelle stands the best chance of beating Holt for various reasons besides his wealth....but what does Gooch have besides money? Is that enough for her to beat Pallone? Iiiiii dooooon't knooooowwww........

Art, how does the Monmouth County Steering Committee process work? Who votes? Is is done by secret ballot? Curious minds want to know. And deserve to know.

Thanks.

The whatever you call it committee, screening, steering, advisory, is comprised of municipal chairs, past and present elected officials on the county and state level, and past and present county chairs.

I don't know if it will be a secret ballot. Last year it was not.

here's another example of how important the damn redistricting will be for us, how crazy for this even to be needed.. let's pay attention, with a Rep. gov.,so that we get a MUCH beter shake come next cycle!!

we hear yes, secret, yes,voice- who knows, chair makes the rules that day.. please encourage your vote to listen to them, and really judge them on true experience and electability, THIS year, on THIS ticket for us!! we MUST succeed.. a split is totally unacceptable this year, since right now, Flippy is setting the agenda, getting the headlines, making the deals, and making the plans to be Director, which would be a disaster for our county!..

secret ballot it should be. Fair is fair.

The Republican Party has not learned that including as many people in the candidate selection process is a good thing.Instead the party insists on having the party elite make the choice. There is no doubt in my mind former Freeholder Anna Little would be our next choice for Congress. However the chairman will get together the elite of the party for a choice that will be in his best interest. As our Vice Chair we would have needed a paparazzi photographer to capture her last visit to any of Republican functions. In her cameo appearances at Republican events ,her appearances are brief.I get the feeling she doesn't really like political folks. So why then are you running for office. When the Republican Party learns that including as many people in the process is a good thing, the State will be red once again.Joe,they call this process Democracy,it is a good thing, not a bad thing.Bring back the process where County Committee people who do the grunt work for our party, vote.
Rank and file republicans ,on Monday your party will pick a congressional candidate for District 6 who
1.Never shows up a Republican events
2.Does not live in 6th and could not relate to the working class of 6th if she took lessons
3.Has bought her way into the party.
5.Couldn't give a rousing speech if her life depended on it
6.And lastly has NOTHING,NOTHING,in common with the voters of District 6.
Is it any surprise why the Republican Party has trouble filling its spots for County Committee!!!When was the last time we honored these workers??Instead we tell them they are smart enough to do the grunt work, but so stupid that only the party elite know who to choose.Maybe Joe we should just let the party elite vote in general elections, yes, great idea, too many stupid people.

The problem with this process in Monmouth County is that elected officials need money to run. If one candidate is a wealthy supporter of the electeds making the decision, the process is inherently unfair. How about if anyone who took more than (pick a number) dollars from a candidate has to recuse themself from the vote? without it, Diane Gooch buys the nomination. (BTW - does anyone know what her positions are? I went to her website but it just says she wasn't always married to a rich guy. I REALLY want to know what she stands for but there isn't even an email to send her a note and ask.)

She believes is returning America to "The Land of Opportunity" and she is correct, we are heading in the wrong direction! She would like more Americans to have the opportunity to succeed in business just like she and her husband have had. It's time for her to give back and share their knowledge and concerns for the American people, to relieve the debt placed on our children from the ill concerns of Pallone and Wasington! We need women and businness leaders in Congress. She will beat Pallone. She is a kind, considerate, smart women who will gain the support of many women and many voters in the
6th. She is from a middle class upbringing - lived through the struggles of life, sickness of her mom, and to go on to take risk to create a successful business and employee over 1700 is admirable.
It's refreshing to have a successful women, take the time to change the direction for the sake of not only her children but your children and mine! I wish her much success!

Anon 2:20 - okay - what does that mean? Where does she stand on the issues and why, if she has all this money to put into a campaign, doesn't she have a website where I can hear from her about her stand on life, health care, immigration, national security...? I work 2 jobs - I don't have time to go to these events. I would like the chance to pick a candidate based on what she has to say about real issues in a forum other than a political event - either an interview or a website of her own. It is starting to feel like Gooch is only worried about party leadership - after all, she doesn't need the rank and file to get the nomination

Anon 5:28 I hear you. I am in same situation. Not "in the loop" and dont't have time or $$ to go to events at this point in my life. I try to stay abreast of political matters thru word of mouth (friends more involved) and online stuff. Joke, but not really, if I had a say my choice would be "Anna Gooch." I am realistic and know that even w/grassroot support, money WILL matter in this race. Hate to say it but the average voter is uninformed and with a lying/consistent media message by Frank Pelosi it will have a huge impact. The Little and Gooch websites are distinctly different and if someone went on this basis the choice would have to be Little. It makes me wonder 1) is Gooch as a neophyte being cautious and developing well thought out positions or 2) avoiding any substance while seeking the party endorsements? A convention on Saturday in Middlesex and the Monmouth thing is apparently next week, so - why no "full website" when we know it is not a money issue on the Gooch end? I hear both are nice people and both seem intent on taking on Palonski. I made a comment elsewhere If Gooch did not have the money would anyone be encouraging her toreally has no ability to raise enough $ to do the job and is a single office self employed person to boot - who has the best chance to beat Frankie boy? ps I will support anyone as the anti-pallone....maybe there are enough like me so it won't matter????

Gooch is making her rounds with speaking engagements, candidate nights etc. So is Anna. Money plays a large part, anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken. It is what it is. So really what is the difference? the line...Anna can still run and can still win. Unlike the 12th, Sipprelle can and will win, Halfacre cannot and will not win.
Halfacre has a narcissistic personality disorder. I am surprised Art has not noticed!

Gooch has very apparent weaknesses: her presentation style, formal education is lacking, no government exp., articulation is very poor, and knowledge of all the issues is absent. Can we secretly agree that she is not qualified but has alot of money to spend ? Shame on the Republican party for overlooking all of these weaknesses for big dollars to spend.
