The good news for Monmouth County's Bayshore residents is that the House of Representatives passed HR 5114, The Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act. The bill, if approved by the Senate and the President, will postpone for 5 years the implementation of the "new" FEMA flood map which caused many homeowners to have to buy expensive flood insurance. Those who have purchased the insurance will not be required to renew their policies if the bill becomes law.
Frank Pallone voted for the legislation and issued a statement lauding its passage. Other than that, he had nothing to do with it, despite what he told hundreds of residents at FEMA meetings in the spring and summer of 2008.
The bill was sponsored by California Congresswoman Maxine Waters and co-sponsored by 13 Democrats including Albio Sires of Bayonne, but not by Pallone.
