Democratic Freeholder candidate Amy Mallet has a six figure debt held over from an unsuccessful campaign for Assembly in 2003, according to reports by Barry Goldwater and the Asbury Park Press.
Mallet is not the only unsuccessful 2003 Assembly candidate whose skeletons in the closet from those campaigns have come back to bite them.
In 2006, the Dems forced Freeholder candidate Lenny Inzerillo off the ballot after Honest Abe (where's he been?) broke the story that Lenny had not filed his ELEC reports from his 2003 Assembly race. The fact that the Monmouth Democratic party had missing ELEC reports itself didn't save Lenny.
How can the Monmouth Democrats continue to support Mallet with this debt hanging over her head? How will the debt ever be paid? Will fund raising during the Freeholder campaign go to pay the debt? In the unlikely event that Mallet is elected Freeholder, will she hold fund raisers to retire the debt? Would there be any favors promised, like appointments or contracts, to donors who help retire the debt?
The Democrats should look to J. Gregory Gibadlo for tips. Greg knows how to run a Freeholder campaign for $3,500 and knows how to file his reports.
