Governor-Elect Chris Christie to Participate in Night Patrol with Mayor Cory Booker

TRENTON, NJ – Governor-Elect Chris Christie and Mayor Cory Booker will join volunteers and off-duty police officers in patrolling the wards of Newark. The goal of Community Caravan Night Patrols is to disrupt normal crime patterns and to get the local community engaged in the crime prevention process. The Newark based Night Patrol is active every weekend and several nights during the week, focusing on high crime sectors of the city.

Gotta give Christie credit - he's kissed up to all the top Dems in the state - Booker, Norcross, Adbuato, Zaro, Scudiery, the list goes on.

I can feel reasonably sure that the off-duty officers "volunteering" to patrol the wards of Newark will be carrying their legal, off-duty service firearms to protect themselves from the criminals. It's quite possible that I could lose the bet, but I'd certainly be willing to make the bet that no off-duty officer who can legally carry a firearm is going to head out and wonder around the worst parts of Newark in the middle of the night, hoping to come across and disrupt some criminals, without their weapon at their side. Will the other volunteers and/or Mr. Christie or Mr. Booker be armed and engaging criminals? Or will they simply be standing around in front of well lit police posts for the publicity? Will they have armed security/protection for themselves? Will the other "volunteers" have armed protection? And what if this volunteer group should come across some criminal and said criminal pulls a gun on one of these volunteers and the volunteer pulls a gun of their own and shoots the criminal dead in "self-defense", will the city of Newark protect the volunteer from Al Sharpton I mean liberals I mean media I mean lawyers I mean lawsuits that would love to hang a good citizen who was stopping crime?

And what if I "volunteer" to patrol my own neighborhood, where there was a shooting/murder not long ago and a stabbing/attempted murder not long before that and a shooting not long before that, and "reports of shots fired" not long before that... will I be granted a CCW permit to protect myself while volunteering my time and life to the city/state? I'd certainly love to help deal with crime in my neighborhood and help the city lower the cost of paid police officers, but it doesn't seem like the city/state wants my help. :(

I can also state that quite a few nights while walking my dog late at night I've come across what appeared to be shady activity. I choose not to pay the monthly bill of a cell phone but I do have a VHF radio - can I get a permit to speak on the police frequency to report a crime in progress or should I continue to just turn and walk the other way?

ok fine... all non-sense aside, is Mr. Christie going to start earning the State of NJ some money by selling law-abiding, no-criminal background, reputable citizens such as myself a carry permit to exercise a right that the founders granted us without the necessity of a permit? Will he sell those permits to out of state residents the way Florida does to bring in extra income? To fall back on old-faithful, if I don't need a gun, why do the police need guns? And if the police aren't willing to go out and try to stop crime without guns, why should I risk my life to "volunteer" to stop crime without a gun? Not to mention that NJ doesn't even have a Caste Doctrine like law so currently, not only can I not even think about preventing crime in my neighborhood, I can hardly prevent a crime in my own home!

So many questions...

Christie is by no means a conservative. He is okay to make Christie Whitman look like a conservative! His new attorney general proves it and Kim Guadagano? fyi, Kim attended the Monmouth Democrats 2008 Victory Party when Amy Mallet won after her swearing in! Guaranteed just ask her.

Hope he enjoys hanging out with New Jersey's biggest liberal Booker so he can get some good press.

Politicians that have to work together (Sheriff's office has to get funding from Freeholders that just became Dem controlled due to Mallet's win.) usually congratulate each other. This is business as usual. Everything cannot be a war.

granted Kim is no socila conservative but the fact that she went to congragulate a freeholder from another party who she was going to have to work with...so what.
