Halfacre endorsed by NJTeaParty for NJ-12 Congressional GOP primary

From NJTeaParty.com

NJTeaParty has voted unanimously to support Mayor Michael Halfacre of Fair Haven, NJ for the Republican nomination in New Jersey's 12th congressional district spanning Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset Counties.

The decision was announced following a four-part vetting procedure established by the organization including research, written commitments by the candidate on 21 policy positions, an intensive two-hour hearing, and final review by the membership ending in a vote.

"We are proud to endorse Mayor Halfacre's candidacy for the Republican nomination in the New Jersey 12th congressional district," said group founder Jeff Weingarten. "We believe that he is the best candidate to defeat Congressman Rush Holt in November, 2010."

Asked why Halfacre took the endorsement over GOP primary opponent Scott Sipprelle, Weingarten said the biggest factor was Sipprelle's June 2009 donations to five Congressional Democrats who voted for legislation that the conservative organization opposes.

NJTeaParty is an association of the leaders of individual Tea Party organizations and other conservative organizations for the purpose of maximizing their collective influence.

There are many, many grassroots people who do not belong to this group....and those many, many grassroots people were around long before this group and are NOT supporting Halfacre.

No one even provided the courtesy of a public reply on this blog when someone asked in response to a post by someone named "Jeff" a few weeks ago what the criteria was for their endorsement, or if the interview was public. And they've never even met with Scott Sipprelle, or David Corsi, or anyone else who might come forward ... and I wonder why. This endorsement rings hollow; it is not from the belfries of truth and justice at all. It comes at a precarious time in the campaign of the candidate hanging on by his fingernails. And it comes at a premature time in the primary process before all candidates are even known! This totally delegitimizes their fairness and is suspect at best. This group does not represent the grassroots in total, I assure you, and I resent them implying that they do.

What a shame....for them, for the country. Holt's campaign must be cheering.

"And they've never even met with Scott Sipprelle"

Sipprelle repeatedly refused to meet with this group. He made appointments and then canceled a few days before. He refused all the dates and locations that were suggested to him. Why? Because according to his Princeton interview, he doesn't fit the mold of the tea party groups. He fits the mold of Dede Scozzafava, Bill Baroni and others..

The problem with this Country is that too many people pay attention to what party leaders say, when all the party leaders care about is collecting favors to line their own pockets. This is another reason to be voting for Sipp.

Halfacre is pro-abortion. He also supports a radical, pro-homosexual rights agenda. The New Jersey Tea Party ought to be ashamed of itself for endorsing a liberal RINO like Halfacre. That said, and in the end, I don't imagine this endorsement will mean all that much. Halfacre's campaign is doomed.

I suspect if the Federal Election Commission were to investigate this blog for its role as a media outlet for senseless Halfacre campaign babble, the Esq. and Art would have some explaining to do. But then again, a deep review of the Esq. would raise some even larger issues.

When a tree falls in the woods does anyone hear it? Never heard of this group.

What kind of Tea Party is this??? Endorsing a guy who makes ends meet by feeding out of the public trough and trading town attorney gigs with neighboring towns? Serves as the legal counsel to the Board of Ed in the very town where he is Mayor! This isn't tea at all. More like chai. San Francisco chai.

Got no dog in this hunt, but ya gotta ask yourself...."who the heck ARE these Tea Party people?" I mean, were they elected? By whom? Are they the 9-12ers? Or the Patriots? There are just so many groups spontaneously forming and feeling empowered....but there is no authenticity here. It could be a bunch of innocent good-natured folks who have no idea how they are being exploited but, come on....what does it matter what they say? They haven't even finished their first 'convention'---which also makes you wonder, what are they doing here endorsing anybody?

I see many people posting that Halfacre is a RINO(pro-choice, pro gay marriage etc.) Can they show me where they found that information, or are they making it up in their heads. I don't know who I am supporting so I just would like to see evidence, rather than partisan jabber.

There are various Tea Party groups.....this is just one of many. There are Tea Party Councils, Tea Party Coalitions, Tea Party Uniteds, and teaparty.com groups and then there are Patriots groups. And that's just for starters; look for yourself. In other words, a group of political supporters can band together, call themselves one of these things, put up a website and give the impression that they are the one and only Tea Party representing large groups of people, and "endorse" someone. The fact that this endorsement came before all the candidates are even known should make anyone skeptical. Right now the tea party people are trying to centrally organize at a convention because of this problem and many others. Not to say many of their intentions may be honorable, but they can be politically naive and ripe for exploitation. It's a shame good people are being manipulated by some candidates.

This endorsement is a joke. The TPs made themselves irrelevant in this election with such a stupid move like this. The voters won't pay attention to them anyway.

At least Corsi comes closest to their own beliefs, but they went with expediency over principle. There's no way they could endorse Sipprelle so they took the easy way out and went with the next best choice in terms of candidate viability.

Halfacre said the underlying question remains unanswered: "The issue is do public facilities have to support a private club's discriminatory membership practices by allowing the organization to use their facilities?"

"The (school boards) announcement is a great step forward for the Boy Scouts, but is a step backward for people who want to put pressure on the Boy Scouts to stop discriminating."

Anonymous 9:33pm - Halfacre stated he was prochoice during his campaign kick off last summer. If you do a search you will find the statements.

Hilarious...we desperately wanted your endorsement, but now that you've given it to the other guy, its not that important.I'm sure the other Tea Party groups will be interested to know how Sipprelle's campaign consultant feels about them though.

I dont think these guys implied that they speak for the grassroots in total, but they do represent a whole bunch of Tea Party groups. There are certainly other groups as well. Let's see how that goes.

if anyone thinks "Tea Party" groups are irrelevant, watch some of their covention in Nashville,on CSPAN..I will be snowed-in, watching them go nuts for Sarah Palin, the keynote, who's doing well with her book, (good for her!), and will donate the $100,000 speaking fee right back to them..as a longtime GOP activist thru good and bad times, my view is: if it helps wake up non-political Americans to get involved without a party "label," and it results in more Conservatives winning and helping to bring the GOP and the government back to a more rational and sensible governance model, I am way FOR their success.. let's take their good intentions and focus on BEATING all libs who are taxing us and regulating us all, to DEATH!.. which is what T-E-A means: TAXED ENOUGH,ALREADY!- who can disagree with that?..

Sarah Palin's speech last night at the Tea Party convention launched her, willingly or not, into a leadership role.

Anyone care to guess who Halfacre smirkingly blamed for McCain's 2008presidential loss? Wonder what the Tea Party folks would think about that....

"I see many people posting that Halfacre is a RINO(pro-choice, pro gay marriage etc.) Can they show me where they found that information"

The Halfacre campaign has done a good job of hiding the candidates stand on these issues.

Anyone who knows Mike and has talked to him about these issues knows what his position is.

Plus look at who his backers are.

How the hell do we allow our screening committees let these RINO'S sneak through? Halfacre,Angelini, etc.
Houston, we have a problem !

good question.. gotta pay more attention and get more conservative idealists to throw their hats in the ring..

Tea party people are not irrelevant, their so called leaders are. That is the point of the tea party, we do not follow "political leaders" who are just in this for cutting themselves deals for endorsements. We don't blindly follow party bosses.

FAIR HAVEN - The Board of Education voted last night to adopt a policy that will allow the Boy Scouts to continue meeting in the schools while setting guidelines for opening the buildings to outside organizations.
The policy, which passed 5 to 2, gives the superintendent the authority to approve or deny all written requests for using schools facilities.
It does not include a clause considered last fall that would have prevented the Scouts, which does not allow gay leaders, and other groups from meeting in the schools unless the organizations signed a document stating they don't discriminate.
However, after a Florida district court ruled in March against a similar policy enacted by the Broward County school district, the board here reconsidered the proposal. Board attorney Michael Halfacre advised officials that a New Jersey court would come to a similar decision if the Scouts challenged the policy.

Even after the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the liberal New Jersey Supreme Court decision requiring that the Boy Scouts accept gay scout leaders “Halfacre said the underlying question remains unanswered: ‘The issue is do public facilities have to support a private club's discriminatory membership practices by allowing the organization to use their facilities?’ ‘The (school boards) announcement is a great step forward for the Boy Scouts, but is a step backward for people who want to put pressure on the Boy Scouts to stop discriminating.’” See: Asbury Park Press, February 21, 2001.

Bottom line.

Guess you never knew a Cub Scout who suddenly could not meet with his pack in his school .... because of Mike Halfacre, who had a real 'win' for his legal career and was proud of it ..... at the expense of innocent well-intentioned kids.

Anonymous said...

You're right, I dont know any Cub Scouts who couldnt meet with their pack in school..and neither do you. Because they were never forbidden from meeting there.

And Halfacre was clearly the one who advised the board to drop their pursuit of the policy.

So I guess my question is...wtf are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

"Because they were never forbidden from meeting there."

Absolutely not true.

And it was Halfacre who felt the board had a right to do so.

Which is the entire point. Read his quotes.... and weep.
