Our 2007 Screening Candidates
A “Wireside Chat” from Chairman Adam Puharic
02/01/2007

Dear fellow Republicans:

Tonight, I am honored to announce the candidates who have chosen to move forward in the candidate selection process for 2007. Clearly, our reform of the divisive, little-minded convention system of the last two years has worked with extreme precision. Only those candidates willing to stand up to professional scrutiny, and able to submit to a thorough background review before moving forward, have put their names forward. Long gone are the days of candidates selected to form wedges in our great party, pitting one geographical region against another. They have become very uncomfortable by the thought of being screened by the Chairman’s committee -- who are all committed to unity in the Republican party.

Instead, on March 24th, at Brookdale Community College, the county committee will vote to choose among a group of candidates committed to uniting the party, and winning in the general election. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 screening committee candidates:

State Senator
11th District – Assemblyman Sean Kean
12th District – Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck
13th District – Senator Joseph Kyrillos

State Assembly
11th District:
David Rible – Wall Twp.
Mayor Tom Catley – Neptune Twp.
Mary Pat Angelini – Ocean Twp.
Mayor Bill Larkin – Ocean Twp.
Kim Guadagno -- Monmouth Beach Commissioner
12th District:
Caroline Casagrande – Colts Neck
Tom Gilmour – Council President in Fair Haven
Declan O’Scanlon – Little Silver Councilman
13th District:
Assemblywoman Amy Handlin
Assemblyman Sam Thompson

Sheriff:
Joseph Oxley

County Clerk:
M. Claire French

Freeholder:
J. David Hiers -- Ocean Twp. Councilman
Brian Reilly – Spring Lake Councilman
Jeff Cantor – Council President in Marlboro
Freeholder Rob Clifton
Freeholder Anna Little

Congratulations and thank you to all of the candidates who are complying with this ethical reform.

In the next few days, the rumor mill will spread lies about the background process involved before the screening committee convenes on February 17th. Let me be clear, and put an end to the little people who put a lot of energy into spreading lies about our good party:

The background process is voluntary. To date, everyone has indicated a willingness to comply.
We are asking the candidates to invest in this process. If a candidate is unwilling to fund their own background, the party will do it. But our funds are not endless and we are all in this together.
The results will remain confidential.
The Democrats will find out if we don’t. Don’t kid yourselves. With control on the line, if you don’t think the Dems will discover and use the same information, you are kidding yourselves.
Best of luck to all of our candidates! I will update you following the screening committee’s decision.

win what? win one for a couple of law firms because it's the right thing to do?

that's the purpose of government, alright. they do this and republicans don't win anything. a couple of firms do.

Let me be clear, and put an end to the little people...

Is that a Freudian slip?

Two slips? little-minded conventions and little people

Adam is a PR professional and teaches journalism. I don't think his choice of words is accidental.

His angry tone and inflammatory language really disappoints me. He's going overboard in denouncing the conventions of the last two years, and those who do not agree with his decisions. For what purpose?

His language indicates that he intends to use his power to dominate the party into a submissive unity, rather than influence and harness the enthusiasm of the competing groups for a common cause.

Will it work? It don't think so, but I'm just a blogger.

Alright. Let me get this straight. Each candidate pays a grand to god knows what outfit for a background check. And this info gets shared with the steering committee. Which is 24 people. And whathappens if there's a leak, like it looks like there already is?

What's been leaked already are fabrications about Anna Little, and Adam has spread the rumors, that has been confirmed.

How do I know they are fabrications? I did a background check on Anna Little in December when the rumors started heating up. I wouldn't have defended her without the facts on my side.

There are no judgements against Anna Little. Ask anyone who says differently if they have seen the judgements.

Malcolm, Jacob and Adam will have lots of splaining to do when the truth comes out and when the Democrats have control at the Hall of Records.

Want to know what this is all really about when you get right down to it? Not Anna's vote against Malcolm. It's about Anna not following Adam's directives blindly during the campaign last year. It's about her following her own good instincts instead of his bad directions, and then winning when the candidate who did what he was told lost.

Adam, like Bill Barham, just can't tolerate disobedient women, and he doesn't want to go through another campaign with Anna.

That is why incumbents are screening and that is why Anna Little will not get the line.

Bill if what you are saying is true(and I pray it is not)and Anna is booted of the ticket does anyone doubt that there will be a primary. It will be bloody and ugly and the only winners will be the democrats in November. control will switch and the Barham and Burry will loose next year. Nice legacy.
Very short sighted.

Of course one could take the long view that perhaps a better Monmouth County Republican Party dedicated to honesty and integrity would rise phoenix like from the ashes of defeat.
Ahhh who am I kidding. Some new crazy would probably take over.
