Former New Jersey Democratic Chairman Tom Byrne has an outstanding OpEd piece of NJ.com's NJ Voices. which outlines how Initiative and Referendum could work in New Jersey and end the vicious cycle of wasteful, unresponsive and inept government in Trenton.
Initiative and Referendum was the centerpiece of the GOP's "Choice of Change" campaign this fall. With Bryne embracing and promoting the idea, there may well be an opportunity to turn the tide in Trenton, if like minded Democrats and Republicans can come together, for the people, and over rule those in Trenton without the courage or motivation to make the bold and necessary changes.

I&R was also a campaign promise made by the GOP when they swept the Legislature in '93 and gained the majority, along with the governor's office. We're still waiting for that promise to be kept. What makes anyone think either party will want to open up the gravy train?
