Corzine: Mr. Transparency?

The Corzine campaign is trying to make an issue of the fact that more than 20 requests for Chris Christie's budget, travel expenditures, and no-bid contracts while U.S. Attorney, made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) have gone unfilled.

LG Candidate Loretta Weinberg said, "Mr. Christie's campaign Web site says he will demand greater transparency and accountability in government. So why doesn't he start with himself? What's he hiding?"

Does the Freedom of Information Act apply to opposing poltical campaigns? Did the Corzine camp really file 20 FOIAs at Christe Headquarters in Parsipanny? Of course not. They filed those requests with President Obama's Justice Department? Corzine can't even get his "partner in Washington" to turn over opposition research. Why would Loretta Weinberg, aka Grandma Transparency, be twisting this to make it sound as if Christie is hiding something?

Our friends at In The Lobby are wondering if Governor Corzine really wants to go down the transparency road:

"...given Corzine's fight to keep his e-mail exchange with Carla Katz private.

Not to mention the $6 million in parting gifts he gave Katz, which he won't explain. Like he won't explain why he needed to have a negotiated settlement with her when they broke up after two years of dating. Or why he felt compelleded to negotiate a settlement with Katz' brother-in-law, Rocco Riccio."

Instead of filing FOIA requests with the Obama Justice Department, the Corzine camp should just ask the Christie camp for the information. I would imagine the call would go like this:

Volunteer Receptionist: "Christie For Governor!"

Maggie Moran: "Hello, this is Maggie Moran calling for Bill Stepien"

Volunteer Receptionist: "Please hold"

Bill Stepien: "Hi Maggie, you're looking good on YouTube."

Maggie Moran: "GFY Bill, cut the crap. Listen up, Obama's Justice Department won't gives us information about Christie's budget, travel expenditures and the no bid DPAs. Your website says he's committed to transparancy and Weinberg wants to know what he's hiding. What do you say I fax over the questions to you and get the answers back to me in 24 hours."

Bill Stepien: "Sure Maggie, no problem, as long as you include Corzine's emails with Carla Katz, any written agreements between him and Carla, as well as his agreement with Rocco Riccio in that fax."

Maggie Moran: "GFY Bill. While I have you, I saw Chris's YouTube saying he's going to listen to Democrats and Independents. Can I send you my resume?"

Bill Stepien: "Sure Maggie, just include it in the fax."

Maggie Moran "No worries. It's all good."
