Democrats Recruiting

Look what I found in my fax machine today!

Copies of the email Assemblyman Joe Cryan's (D-Union)chief if staff David Jenkins sent to Sarah Kozak of Rutger's Eagleton Institute looking for candidates for four Monmouth County jobs; CFO, Inspector General, Director of Human Resources and Director of Human Services. Also in the file is Kozak's email blast to Eagleton Alumni looking for applications in two days!

The PDF linked above is hard to read so I'll copy the text of Jenkins' email here:

Subject: Monmouth County Job Openings

Sarah, I am Assemblyman Joe Cryan's chief of staff and have recently been contacted by freeholders in Monmouth County. Currently, the county is trying to identify candidates for four positions which they are looking to fill at the turn of the year. These include a Chief Financial Officer, Inspector General, Director of Human Resources, and a Director of Human Services. They are looking for CFO candidates first and foremost (hopefully by the end of the week) I was told that you would be able to listserve the openings out to a database of candidates? If you have any advice, or recommendations please reach out to me! Thanks for your consideration, and hope to speak with you soon! Residency for all positions: preferably Monmouth but not required. CFO-$125,000 to $165,000 annually-Experience in a county CFO office required-All certificates and qualifications of a county CFO needs Human Resources-$85,000 to $105,000 annually-Relevant experience in county government or private corporation Inspector General-$95,000-$105,000 annually-Experience in law enforcement or judicial activities Director of Human Services-$105,000 to $125,000-Some relevant experience Dave JenkinsCell - 201-xxx-xxxx David Jenkins Office of Assemblyman Joseph Cryan985 Stuyvesant AvenueUnion, NJ 07083B: 908.624.0880 x15F: 908.624.0587E: asmcryan@njleg.orgwww.NJCommunityFist.com

(Sorry to redact Jenkins' cell #. Just in case the bill is paid for by the taxpayers, I don't want to be the cause of him exceeding his minutes.)

I'm not going to retype Kozak's email. The most notable thing about it is that it was sent at 4:59 PM on Tuesday December 16, 2008 and requested that candidates reply by Friday December 19th. That is not much time for a search to fill positions of such importance.

Jenkins' email confirms what I have been saying for months and what Honest Abe has been saying for years. If the Democrats win control of the Monmouth County Freeholder Board, Trenton Democrats are taking over.

It also raises the question, Why is the chief of staff of a Union County Assemblyman recruiting for Monmouth County positions? Is this the job of a state assemblyman's office regardless of the county? Is this a political activity being conducted on the people's time? Why does Jenkins have his state office contact as the signature of his personal email address?

Well, at least they reached out to Rutgers Eagleston Institute and not to... say....Mayor Scharfenberger for the county administrator...or that guy in Howell...Tobia (who I think is doing a good job), for a $100K+ per job, or to the Mayor of Colts Neck to fill a plum municipal job with absolutely NO qualifications whatsoever. (talk about disgusting political appointments...geez).
Kind of like going through a recruiter, except your asking your friends for QUALIFIED people.

Actually Rick, there was a nationwide search for the county administrator job and it took months. It shouldn't be surprising that we had the best candidate right here in Monmouth County. After all, Where in New Jersey are.... you know the rest. :-)

The Tobia(from Wall) appointment worked out well. I was very critical of it here. It will be interesting to see if the Dems keep him beyond his contract.

The other thing that surprises me is that they are looking for a law enforcement or judicial type for the Inspector General job. I thought D'Amico wanted to create that position to find wasteful spending to cut. It seems to me an accountant with an auditing background would be better suited for that position.

Obviously, CFO Mark Acker's days on the job are numbered. That's what he gets for producing a budget with a zero increase and maintaining a AAA bond rating.

You know and I know that the zero increase this year was a one year gig. Burry moved some stuff around for a year. It was an election year gimmick. And what makes you think that the triple a rating will just go "poof"? As for Tobia, I think he came in with some real budget numbers and that he did a good job with that. I even agree that they should look at who's in there now and then evaluate. But hey, they need to put people in there that they can trust, since they obviously won't be getting that warm and fuzzy feeling from Burry and Clifton.
And you didn't even talk about that stinking mess in Colts Neck with Mayor Hennessy being appointed to the Rec. job with absolutely no qualifications at all. I know you think she's effective, but man, she's as manipulative and cunning as they come.
And that's just not some intuition talking, that's just how it is.

I didn't talk about the Colts Neck thing because I don't know much about it.

You didn't talk about a state employee doing political business on the people's time.

You know..I start my job search in about two and a half months..and graduate in May.

Something tells me I wouldn't be considered..you know minus that whole not really qualified for it yet.

On another note, I really should stop commenting ripping some dems, at least under my real name..haha.

Then again it's not a real big secret what side I'm on.

The Union County/Trenton Dem connection is terribly embarrassing, and I imagine only a shadow of things to come.

Are they really looking for an Inspector General? Give me a break.

Another angle I find distressing is that our Freeholder majority apparantly does not know how to conduct a search to fill jobs. It sounds like Cryan's guy is new to this "internet" and not sre if jobs can be posted on it.

Idiots.

And Rick,

The Colts Neck thing was also bad government.

That pendulum swings both ways.

Merry Christmas to all!!

As usual, missing the point. The issue isn't that the email came from Eagleton, the issue is that its source is Joe Cryan's office, the State Democratic Chairman (who happens to be a swill sucking union county undersheriff too). Forces from outside of Monmouth County chomping at the bit to get hold of patronage.

In all fairness exactly how qualified do you need to be to be director of recreation in Clts Neck.

That hardly compares with CFO for the County

Union County Undersheriff Cryan has a law enforcement background. Seriously, whether it's him or not, it sure sounds like the Dems already have their minds made up who they want for that job, and probably have for years.

Obviously, CFO Mark Acker's days on the job are numbered.

Ironic, in that Acker's appointment back in the 80's was a true example of bipartisanship in action. Acker worked for Mercer County under then-County Executive Wilbur Mathesious (R). Either Acker himself or Mathesious was aquainted with Curmudgeonly County Counsel Malcolm Carton, who was able to get a Democratic majority on the Monmouth County Freeholder Board to appoint Acker to the Finance spot. Prior to that, Finance was run through the County Administrator's office.
