Mike Halfacre issued the following statement regarding the entry of Scott Sipprelle into the race for the GOP nod in CD 12:
“I have spent the last seven months crisscrossing the 12th District, speaking with leaders and grassroots activists about my record of re-shaping government in Fair Haven, which resulted in cutting property taxes the past two years, and sharing my vision of smaller, more efficient, less intrusive government. The response has been overwhelming and I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received. I will continue to raise money and do the hard work necessary to gain the trust of voters in the 12th District.
As I told Mr. Sipprelle when we spoke, I don’t think a self funded Wall Street millionaire is the right candidate to defeat Rush Holt in the current environment. Often the messenger is just as important as the message. I’m confident that as a small businessman who became mayor of my hometown, with a proven record of cutting spending and taxes, I am the best person to represent the 12th District and defeat Rush Holt.
In any event, I welcome Mr. Sipprelle to the race and look forward to a vigorous campaign."

end result - Rush Holt wins re-election
we now have republican primary fights in the 12th and 4th districts That include monmonouth -
Who is running against Pallone?
Art Gallagher is running against Pallone - Art should do it, even if its a dificult race, somebody needs to do it to get ideas out. Art on the top of ticket can help local Republicans. We don't need a nonamer on the top of the ticket, it helps our local candidates.
Do it for your party and your country Art.

Show me the money.

I'm blushing.
Mike Halfacre certainly doesn't have a problem accepting campaign contributions from Wall Street millionaires. Just ask Michael Gooch and his wife. Both have contributed the maximum amount allowed by law to Halfacre's doomed Congressional campaign.
The great thing about Scott Sipprelle is that he isn't beholden to those who contribute to his campaign. Halfacre is owned by the large number of trial lawyers and the ultra-wealthy that have contributed to his campaign.
Run, Scott, run!
It's always amusing listening to Mike Halfacre ramble on about the size of government. This guy must have had a dozen government jobs over the years. He has been feeding at the public trough most of his adult life.
It will be refreshing to have someone in this campaign who has actually accomplished something in the private sector. I wish Scott Sipprelle all the best.
Why would we go with Halfacre when we can have the Full Acre?
Scott is a dabbler. After leaving Morgan Stanley, he moved around a bit, started a fund, closed it, started another, closed it, wrote a book, became a venture capitalist, and now wants to play politician. He may have found the republican party lately, but has supported Schumer, Lieberman and Heath Schuler. Writing checks to democrats as recently as last year. Just another checkbook candidate that doesn't stand for anything. If he wins, just swear in Holt for life.
Well it is a lttle eartly to say how this will play out. They both seem like credible candidates right now and niether of them are perfect.
One thing that would make the race interesting would be if Sipperele turned out to be a social conservative (yeah probably not but you never know)
What I find disturbing is that people claiming to be Republicans are already attacking Halfacre because he got paid for doing legitimate work for government entitis and others are attacking Sipperele because he worked on Wall Street. Since when do Republicans attack people for being legitimate businessmen? Isn't that something Democrats do?
I think a primary is a good thing if the candidates ane theit supporters stick to legitimate issues.
Anna Little for Congress
Princeton Chardonnay sipper. 'nuff said.
Wall street got us into this mess! Great line.
Halfacre has done a nice job as mayor and so far in this campaign. He will win.
Anonymous 6:56 (and 7:11, same person)
Thats a great point. Jon Corzine wasnt beholden to anyone either. Or Doug Forrester. Or Andy Unanue. Or Anne Evans Estabrook. Awesome candidates one and all.
Newsflash: People are sick of bored millionaires running for office.
I just wanna let all you Republicans to know that this primary makes us Monmouth Dems very very happy. Thanks again guys! Keep up the great work!!!!!
oh yeah - Sipperele donated dems and hes wall streeter - wait Halfacre can't self-fund and has had 8 public jobs - hes ruined Fair Haven..oh yeah oopsie, not the dems job, we'll let you Republicans do that.
Have fun boys - just know that well be raising money for Rush while you guys cream each other between now and june.
Maybe you guys missed the memo Vin Gopal sent out this afternoon to Democratic municipal chairs and committeepeople in Holts Monmouth district. it said 'Sit Back AND Enjoy the Show'
We will!
An attorney vs. a Wall Street banker? Sounds like Christie vs. Corzine, round 2!
'Sit Back AND Enjoy the Show'
We will!
For re-runs of the 2009 primary show put the word "Lonegan" in the search box in the upper left hand corner of MMM.
How did that work out for you?
Vin Gopal better enjoy it while he can. From Ft. Monmouth to Earle Housing to Sean Goldman to Corzine's Toll Hikes and flood maps in Middletown, Holt has become wildly unpopular in Monmouth. Combine that with his ultra-left votes this past year and Holt might not beat out a Monmouth Dem in a Primary in this county. ooops I forgot..."Monmouth Dems" are as incompetent as Holt.
come on artie - you know that monmouth dems sat on their hands for corzine. half the municipal chairs didnt vote for him they didnt even want sean byrnes in the same room as him.
thats going to be different for rush holt, they'll go all out for him
An unfunded candidate garnered 40 percent of the vote against Holt last time.
If we Republicans will stop trashing each other we might have a shot.
These two guys should run a spirtited, but issue oriented campaign, whoever is standing after primary day...should have the support of all the GOP.
Then the focus can turn to Holt. We need to stop with the "your not my kind of republican!" Republicans and conservatives did that with Mcain...and now our Republic is in peril. After this administration and Congress are finished the Founding Fathers might not be able to recognize the country that emerges. All because Mcain wasn't their kind of Republican.
Halfacre isn't interested in running an issue-orientated campaign. That much is evident by his post above.
where is sipperelle's web site? what does he stand for.
i am willing to look at the guy but he seems clueless about how to run a campaign. Does he think he can just show up out of nowhere and flash his wallet. i heard he called a districy 11 legislator and asked for their support. This shows lack of knowledge about local politics.
If this guy is serious he better ramp it up.
otherwise please do not waste our time.
Wow Mike ... you're sweating bullets. As a triathlete, thought you would enjoy healthy competition. After all, this is what democracy is all about. Just show your true colors and let the primary voters do the rest. And stop with the negative attacks using phony names or anonymously. Then again, you never could hold your tongue when you didn't get your way...

Maybe Gooch thinks Halfacre would do a good job and has a chance to knock another entrenched lib out of the HofR. Is that a bad thing in 2010? Sipprelle should donate too instead of torpedo Halfacre's good momentum.
