No wonder the Dems are trying to make this blog a campaign issue

Middletown and Monmouth County Democrats loved this blog when I was criticising Republicans.

Just in case you hadn't noticed, I didn't change, the Republican leadership did, with a new Freeholder Director and a new Chairman.

I wish I could claim the mantle of being the D's worst nightmare, as I was previously for certain R's. Now that the Monmouth Republican party is on the right track I can focus on the D's as William H. Seward did in 2006.

As their long tradition dictates, the D's own county candidates are their nightmare.

As Barry Goldwater has been pointing out for months, Freeholder candidate Amy Mallet is just not ready for prime time. She should stick to selling T-shirts, pens and coffee mugs.

Now that the Asbury Park Press is on to Mallet, all the money that the unions spend trying to take over Monmouth County won't matter.

Isn't nice to have the Dems playing defense during Bonehead season?

The Middletown Dems are toast. Without The CourierNAACP DEMOCRAT giving them free advertising under the guise of news, the Middletown Dems don't stand a chance. I'm going to do to The Courier NAACP DEMOCRAT and Cracker* Caliendo what Jesse Jackson said he wanted to do to Barack Obama. Metaphorically, of course.

*cracker is a Shakespearean term from King John, "What cracker is this same that deafs our ears with this abundance of superfluous breath?" In the 1760's the English used the term to describe Scot-Irish settlers in the South as boasters and rascals. Superfluous breath? Boaster and rascal? It fits for Caliendo.

I notice you jump across the pond for a definition of cracker, but we live here. If you are going to say it here, you have to use our definition.

Cracker is a term from the antebellum south. It's reference was to the extremely poor, very illiterate white community.

Their diction was punctuated by dropping final consonants. That form of speech was unfortunately adopted by the freed black slaves.

That’s why in both the impoverished white neighborhoods in the south and poor black neighborhoods in the north, “A Ho is to po(or) to go to the sto(re)."

Now see that; because you started a conversation on race I got to point out something whites and blacks have in common.

Trust me – growing up in Asbury Park I became acutely aware of what Cracker means.

Now piss off the Scottish, good going Art. What's next? A diatribe against those haggis-eating, bagpipe-blowing, golf-playing, Mel Gibson-portraying, kilt-wearing skin flints?

Lugar96
A potato-eating, whiskey-drinking, overly-procreative Irish-American.

Thanks for expanding on that Tom. Yes, I went across the pond, but my reference to the 1760's English and Scot-Irish in the South was from this continent and was the beginning of what you were referring to.

The Middletown Democrats are NOT TOAST,ART. With the HOT AIR and integrity short changed on the Republican ticket ,how can you even think that. Jim Grenefge, the democratic candidate, would be a breath of fresh air compared to either republican candidate. He is educated, experienced and articulate. The female republican candidate waves her hands and says nothing of importance and the male candidate is a disgrace before any start of a campaign. Pat Walsh, the other democratic candidate, has served Middletown for many years on the Board of Education ( she is ONE of Nine members on the BOE and she does not make decisions alone, always remember that )She has served with distinction. As for your remarks using the n word...There are better choices in the English language and you are usually better than that.

Pat Walsh voted for every single tax increase that came before her on the school board. Had she objected, she could have voted against them. Plus, she had a bit of a brush up relating to her personal financial disclosures a few years back that failed to disclose thousands in legal services to defend her in a civil suit. Also, she was the one who made the motion on the brilliant idea to put cel towers on school property.
