I Got A Visit From The Tax Man
Maybe it was a "random visit" as the investigator with a badge and business card explained when I asked "they are sending you out to see if businesses have their tax ID on display?" He said he had other investigations in the area and has a quota of random visits, check the ID #'s and then check to see that everything is compliant. The form he was filling out was blank. I must have been the first random visit of the day, during the mid afternoon.
He said they've been shutting businesses down. Hmmm. This could be fun.
In 11 years in business I've never had such a visit or heard of such visits. I used to be the president of a regional chamber of commerce. You'd think I would have heard about this before.
Either way, it is going to fun to find out more about these visits and how random they actually are. It will be even more fun writing about it. Stay tuned.
Quinnipiac Poll: Christie Up By 10 %
Citing reliable sources, Save Jersey is reporting that the Quinnipiac poll that will be released tomorrow morning will show Chris Christie leading Jon Corzine 47%-37% with Chris Dagget at 9%.
Chris Christie Renews Call to Expand School Choice and Ensure Access to Quality Schools

Today, Chris Christie and Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno visited the Learning Community Charter School in Jersey City to tour the school's new facilities and meet with school leadership and parents.
In New Jersey's cities, school districts are continuing to fail and Jon Corzine has responded to the problem by green lighting their wasteful budgets without requiring change - simply sticking by these failed big government bureaucracies instead of focusing on what is best for New Jersey's children. Jon Corzine puts on a good show at his photo-ops with charter school children but his record has been anything but supportive of school choice alternatives.
Charter schools have reported high academic performance while providing rich and well-rounded educations. In Jersey City alone, there are thousands on waiting lists to be enrolled in more cost effective and better alternatives to the traditional districts. For example, the Learning Community Charter School in Jersey City will spend $8,930 per pupil for the 2010 school year while traditional district schools in Jersey City will spend an estimated $17, 221 per pupil for the 2010 school year.
Chris Christie stated: "Every child in New Jersey deserves an opportunity to attend a quality school and receive a world-class education. Charter schools, such as the Learning Community Charter School, provide New Jersey's parents and their children with much needed choice when their local schools and school districts fail at giving their students a high-quality education. It is vital to the future of New Jersey to ensure every child receives a high-quality education regardless of geography or socioeconomic status."
New Jersey's children deserve an education that will prepare them to compete in a 21st century workplace. In order to guarantee universal access to quality schools, New Jersey must ensure parents have the choice to send their children to successful schools and the support to convert their local failing schools into successful charter schools.
A Christie-Guadagno Administration will commit to the following reforms to expand school choice for New Jersey's children:
Increase Resources at the Department of Education for Charter School Implementation. A Christie-Guadagno Administration will devote increased resources to assist parents and educators attempting to start new charter schools, as well as provide guidance and oversight throughout the charter school incorporation process.
Appoint a Commissioner of the Department of Education to Oversee Charter School Approvals. In 2008, the Corzine Administration approved only one charter school, despite twenty-two applications. Under a Christie-Guadagno Administration, a new Commissioner will be created to oversee and prioritize the approval of high-quality charter school applications.
Eliminate Undue School Board Influence Over Charter School Applications in Failing School Districts. School boards in failing school districts are allowed far too much influence over the charter school application process, which creates a troubling conflict of interest. A Christie-Guadagno Administration will eliminate the role these school boards have over the charter school application process within their districts.
Enact Fair Application of School Funding Law to Provide Charter Schools Appropriate Access to Public Funds. If a child needs to leave a failing school to ensure the quality of their education, the state aid for that child's education should follow them to the charter school of their choice. A Christie-Guadagno Administration will assure the public funding provided for each child's education follows them to the school that administers their education.

Disgraceful and Unsettling?
The APP was talking about most of the 1500 citizens who showed up to let the Chairman of the Health Care committee of the House Energy and Commerce committee know what they thought of the bill he is a prime author of.
Does this look like a crowd that "descends into the oratory of the lynch mob, the rhetoric of a rugby scrum or the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution," as the APP referred to those of us who were there:
It looks to me that the room was full of patriots who care passionately about their country, their freedom, their own health care and that of their loved ones.
As James Hogan points out the real disgrace is that Pallone does not represent the people of New Jersey's 6th Congressional District. He started the forum letting the crowd know that HR 3200 was his bill and that there was nothing they could say or do to change his mind about that. Here Pallone gives his spin as the crowd listens politely:
The APP said,
Many of the 1,500 people who showed up at Red Bank Middle School didn't seem interested in learning anything or engaging in the reasoned give-and-take necessary to gaining a fuller understanding of an extraordinarily complicated issue.
Quite the contrary, in my experience most of the 1500 people who showed up were well informed and prepared to ask reasonable questions. While the subject matter is somewhat complicated, it was made extraordinarily so by Pallone's disingenuous spin and double speak. Pallone made it very clear that he didn't want to learn anything or engage in a reasoned give-and-take. He told the group that he was an advocate of the bill and would remain so. He told the group, easily 90% of whom were opposed to his position, that he believed the majority supports his position.
The APP went on,
Many of those in attendance were more than rude, heckling and booing those who had the temerity to express an opinion that differed from their own. And their opinions seemed little more than an echo chamber of misinformation, misconceptions and just plain ignorance. Facts and honest discussion don't stand a chance in such an atmosphere
There is no question that the crowd was passionate. However, the rudeness, heckling and booing were appropriate responses to Pallone's misinformation, spin and just plain dishonesty.
Overall, I was proud to participate in the forum. While, some people of both sides of the debate went too far in belittling the other side, this was a well informed and passionate group. There was no violence. There were no arrests. This was civil democracy in action.
Captain Steve McCarthy of the Red Bank Police Department characterised the crowd as "orderly, patient and well behaved, there were no problems." He said the event went better than expected, inside and outside, given the size of the crowd and the passion over the issue. To his surprise, those who were very passionate inside the meeting were thanking the police and shaking their hands on the way out.
Rather than belittle those who attended, the APP editorial board, who so often laments how apathetic voters are, should be congratulating those are participating passionately.
Christie Camp: Don't Let Corzine Delay Debate

Thursday, August 27, 2009
Jerry Fitzgerald English, Chair
New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission
28 West State Street
13th Floor
Trenton, NJ 08608
Dear Ms. English,
I learned for the first time yesterday that NJN has decided to unilaterally change the long-settled debate schedule because of pressure from the Corzine campaign (the only campaign optionally participating in the debates due to their self-funding status). NJN's decision to bow to pressure from the Corzine campaign is extremely disappointing, and suggests that NJN will allow the Corzine campaign to exert unnecessary influence over the debate.
If the Corzine campaign is serious about engaging in a frank and open discussion about the important issues facing this state, they must respect the current schedule and appear for the debate on the scheduled date. It remains unclear why the Corzine campaign has requested a three week delay in this scheduled debate, but the length of the delay is certainly suspicious. Seeking to delay the debate three full weeks appears to be a strategic consideration, not a scheduling conflict. Chris Christie is prepared to have the debate on the originally established date, and strongly believes that the debates should proceed as scheduled.
I also note that the proposed delay by the Corzine campaign will impact upon the date of the debate between the candidates for Lieutenant Governor. The voters of this state should not be forced to wait until just a few days before the election to begin hearing from the candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in this campaign. Unfortunately, the proposed delay tactics from the Corzine campaign would create just such a result. We urge you to reconsider this decision, and to honor the date originally established for the first debate on October 1st.
Thank you,
Bill Stepien

Corzine Team: "IT'S NOT FUNNY!"

The Corzine campaign thinks the faux press releases the Christie campaign released today stink.
"They may think it's funny, but a federal prosecutor using their power to pressure local law enforcement into giving them preferential treatment is no laughing matter," said Corzine spokeswoman Elisabeth Smith. "In fact, several public officials in New Jersey have been forced to resign over the very same thing. At the end of the day, it is more and more evident that Christie has always had one set of rules for himself and another for everyone else."
The Democratic National Committee took a break from calling average Americans who are opposed to ObamaCare "mobs" and "neanderthals" to weigh in.
Democratic National Committee spokesman Michael Czin said,
“The Christie campaign must have produced their new ad over the last few days while avoiding questions about Christie’s law breaking conversations with Karl Rove, his secret loans and a mysterious traffic stop. Instead of mocking the news, maybe they could spend their time answering the people’s questions about the important issues facing New Jersey. The only thing that's a mockery is Chris Christie lecturing anyone about ethics,” he said.
Newly Released Records Prove Jon Corzine Asleep at the Switch While Taxpayer Dollars Abused and Wasted
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Today's news of wasted dollars across multiple government agencies is shocking in its scope, but not surprising considering the recent news of misused and abused taxpayer dollars in Corzine's Developmental Disabilities Department and the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority. The fact that this practice is commonplace throughout Corzine's Administration gets at the root of New Jersey's growing economic problems. While New Jerseyans continue to be overwhelmingly taxed, Governor Corzine's Administration is guilty of wasting and abusing the tax dollars of hard-working New Jerseyans. For four years now, Governor Corzine's inaction has encouraged the corruption as he continues to raise taxes to make up for disappearing dollars.
Despite making promises of controlling waste, Governor Corzine has caved to political pressure from his party and abandoned his lofty campaign promises. Efforts to establish an independent waste watchdog were stymied when Governor Corzine acquiesced to Democratic leadership in the legislature resulting in the creation of a State Comptroller, who is appointed by and answers to the Governor, rather than the people. Since 2005, three oversight bodies were created to oversee taxpayer funds, the School Construction Review Commission, the Financial Policy Review Board and the Medicaid Inspector General. However, these positions went unfilled for years after their creation with the Financial Policy Review Board only holding its first meeting a few months ago.
Earlier this month, the Christie-Guadagno campaign rolled out a bold ethics reform plan calling for the creation of an Independent State Auditor to act as a watchdog against government waste and ethics violations. Under the policies of his ethics plan, Chris Christie will end dual office holding, dual public employment and pay-to-play for everyone, as well as require strict disclosure of conflicts of interest in the legislature. Today, Chris Christie hailed proposed legislation by Assembly Republicans establishing an independent Auditor General. New Jersey's government is broken and our state needs a watchdog entirely independent of the governor's office and the legislature to curb the abuse that wastes millions in taxpayer funds.
Chris Christie said, "When it comes to rampant waste in our state's government, Jon Corzine looks the other way and fails to enforce accountability for taxpayers' dollars. And Corzine's inaction has actually encouraged the problem. Instead of requiring frugality and prudence, Governor Corzine has passed the buck to New Jersey's taxpayers by raising property taxes 17 percent and enacting 18 new taxes and fees costing New Jerseyans $8.9 billion.
"It is unacceptable that Jon Corzine has allowed fraudulent spending at government agencies to waste precious taxpayer dollars while raising taxes on New Jerseyans. The governor's first priority should be to guard against fraud, waste and abuse and to ensure government agencies are good stewards of New Jersey's funds. New Jersey cannot afford to shoulder the monetary burden passed down to them by the Governor due to his failure to rein in frivolous government spending I'll ask Governor Corzine a simple question - what will he do to end this rampant abuse?"
BREAKING NEWS: Christie Spotted Removing Tag from Mattress

Today, it was revealed that Chris Christie was seen removing the tags from the mattresses in his home. A team of investigators searched the Christie residence for the missing tags, but no evidence was found. The New Jersey Democratic State Committee has begun a countdown clock logging the days until the tags are found.

Voices
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Today, the Christie-Guadagno Campaign released its latest television ad entitled, "Voices," where real New Jerseyans speak out against Jon Corzine's tax hikes, skyrocketing unemployment, out of control spending and broken promises. While New Jerseyans hear solutions and optimism from Chris Christie, Jon Corzine spends his Wall Street millions on misleading and negative attacks.
Christie-Guadagno Campaign Manager Bill Stepien said, "Jon Corzine's slanderous and half-truth ads are as tired and desperate as his failed record. The Governor assumes that if he spends enough of his Wall Street millions on negative ads that the people of New Jersey will simply forget about his failed leadership and broken promises - but we know better. New Jerseyans expect and deserve a debate of the issues that affect their lives and our state. Chris Christie's commitment to talking about the critical issues facing New Jerseyans is not only appropriate given the economic difficulties we're facing, but highlights his commitment to truly change Trenton from the outside in."
BREAKING NEWS: Christie Spotted Taking a Penny, Not Leaving a Penny

This morning, Chris Christie stopped for a bottle of water at his local convenience store. At the cash register, Christie nabbed a penny from the penny tray to cover his $1.36 tab, but did not put a penny back. The Corzine campaign bought their 16th ad space on PolitickerNJ.com to launch a new attack ad asking, "If he'll take your change, what else of yours is really safe?"

A Report On The Town Hall Meetings In Middletown
If you were trying to see Rush Holt last night, perhaps you should have followed the yellow brick road - and brought your little dog along for good measure. Only 238 of Holt's valued constituents had the opportunity to see the man who is supposed to be representing them in Washington.
Nobody sees the wizard. No way. No how.
I was outside very early last night, unlike Holt's staffers, who were invisible until the meeting was nearly over. The early arrivals were predominantly against HR3200 and no Holt representative was present to tell anyone to line up right away due to the limited seating. In the absence of assistance from Holt's office, I directed the early birds to the line, prompting some people with printed "Obama" and "Thanks" signs to appear and get in line as well.
A number of people realized early on that they would not have an opportunity to see their Congressman, and decided to stay for Halfacre's meeting. Others came specially to see the mayor. Also at the park outside the Middletown Arts Center were some folks campaigning against abortion and a group of Lyndon LaRouche supporters against Obamacare. When the doors were closed on the hundreds of people waiting to see their Congressman, most of them joined Halfacre's meeting as well.
I did not get into Mr. Holt's meeting, so I can only comment on Mayor Halfacre's forum. After an introduction by Deputy Mayor Scharffenberger, Halfacre spoke briefly on HR3200. Halfacre's assertion that we needed to take a scalpel to the health care system, not a sledgehammer, was met with cheers, as were many of his remarks about the bill, which the mayor had printed and available for review.
After his comments, Mayor Halfacre invited anyone who wanted to speak to line up and have their turn at the microphone. He asked the crowd to be civil and respectful, and, when they jeered at pro-HR3200 supporters, repeatedly encouraged respect and consideration for both sides.
This was a difficult forum. While about ninety percent of the people who spoke were against the bill, as is Halfacre, the mayor listened to every single person in that line, standing in the near dark until almost nine o'clock last night to make sure that everyone who wanted to be heard had their say, whether he agreed with them or not.
Last night, while Rush Holt hid inside taking pre-written questions from 238 people, Mike Halfacre rolled up his sleeves, stood in front of all the people who were left out, and listened to what each and every person had to say. He listened carefully, quieted the crowd to allow people to have their turn, and never lost his cool.
Frank Pallone says he won't honor the will his constituents. Rush Holt saw about fifteen percent of the people who came to speak to him last night. Congressmen are our voices in Washington. Last night, Mike Halfacre showed that he wants to represent all of the people of the 12th District. Pallone and Holt have shown that they don't deserve to be called "Representatives." Last night, Mike Halfacre showed why he does.

In Case You Missed It...
His wife, kids and Michele Brown were with him. He was allowed to drive home, which probably means the car was registered and insured and he just didn't have the current documents with him. I don't know, I am speculating.
NJ 101.5, Politickernj and some news sites have made a big deal of this today. The Police Director in Lambertville, the town where the tickets were issued, said they were "no big deal." The Director,Bruce Cocuzza, is a Democrat who ran for Hunterdon County Sherrif in 2007. He was crossed off Jon Corzine's Christmas card list today.
Halfacre Is Still Going
Sean Kean: Governor Corzine Needs to Say Now How He Intends to Prevent Housing Ruling From Causing Harm
-- NewJerseyNewsroom.com
Senator Sean Kean, R-Monmouth, urged Governor Corzine to call an immediate special session to deal with an outrageous court ruling that the Sierra Club says will mean “more sprawl, more pollution and more overdevelopment” in New Jersey. In a decision that one local official called “bizarre,” the appeals court said that the millions of dollars spent by cities to comply with state ‘affordable’ housing rules provide no protection from lawsuits demanding more housing be built beyond what the Corzine administration has required.
“Governor Corzine has had ample time to lay out a plan for decisive action on this issue, and he has failed to do so. Towns expected the Corzine administration to keep its promises and protect them from the legal assaults that led to Monday’s bizarre ruling,” Senator Kean said. “If the governor doesn’t support a special session, then I urge him to say today what he will do to help towns prevent property tax increases, overcrowding in schools and environmental damage.”
A developer sued to force Eastampton Township in Burlington County to accept eight units of so-called “affordable” housing. Eastampton argued that it had met state requirements for the number of affordable housing units, and refused to grant a variance so the housing could be crammed into an area zoned for single family homes. The appeals court ruled on Monday in favor of the developer, saying that affordable housing was a “beneficial use” and that the city couldn’t block construction just because it had complied with state law.
“Corzine community affairs commissioner Joe Doria promised over and over again that compliance with expensive state regulations would protect communities from builder’s remedies lawsuits,” Kean said. “Now the governor needs to say how he will keep that promise in light of this court ruling. The governor must show leadership and protect communities from costly lawsuits and attacks on their rights to control sprawl and property taxes.”

Michele Brown Resigns From U.S. Attorney's Office
Brown and the U.S. Attorney's office have come under relentless attacks from the Corzine campaign since it was revealed that GOP gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie and his wife loaned Brown and her husband $46,000 when Brown was Christie's subordinate.
Christie issued the following statement about Brown:
"Michele Brown is a career prosecutor who has worked at the U.S. Attorney's office for 18 years, serving both Democratic and Republican presidents. Michele's long and distinguished record of public service is impressive, and during that time she's shown herself to be a fair and respected federal prosecutor among judges, adversaries and her peers. Her efforts have been instrumental to all the success the U.S. Attorney's office has had and her work ethic, determination and outstanding legal background will be missed by all those she has worked with over the years. I know Michele will continue to be a success at whatever she chooses for her next challenge."
LG candidate Kim Guadagno said,
"It is despicable that Jon Corzine has stooped so low to try to win re-election that he's aimed the negative attacks of his hired guns on a dedicated public servant who made it her life's mission to serve the people of New Jersey as a corruption-fighter. As candidates willingly running for office, we expect this kind of mudslinging, but we don't expect it to be aimed at someone who has made a career serving both Democrats and Republicans in the best interest of the public good. Jon Corzine should be ashamed that he has smeared a respected federal prosecutor's name and forced her to end an acclaimed career in the sole interest of scoring petty political points."
Senator Diane Allen said,
"Jon Corzine earned a reputation that he was willing to spend millions on negative attacks and play down and dirty in order to win. He has certainly lived up to that reputation with his most recent target - a career prosecutor who has made it her life's work to end New Jersey's culture of corruption. Apparently a nearly 20 year commitment serving the public doesn't matter to Jon Corzine if you are a means to his political end. It's shameful that a female prosecutor who has clearly proven her talent and ability to get the job done is no longer able to do the job she has done so well for nearly two decades."
Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk said,
"As a woman who has fought for everything I've gotten in my career, I am outraged by Jon Corzine's malicious and targeted attack on a career prosecutor who has worked diligently to combat corruption in our state. I would say Jon Corzine should be ashamed of going after a woman who has more than proven her talent through hard work and dedication, but that would be giving him too much credit. It's a sad day in New Jersey when politics has reached this new kind of low and I am disheartened that an accomplished prosecutor who proved her mettle in the courtroom time and time again has been forced to resign."
Carla Katz said, "She only got $46,000, she's paying it back with interest and she gave up her job?"
Corzine's recently named campaign chairman, Congressman Frank Pallone, said he has tremendous admiration for Henry Waxman and Nancy Pelosi and that he will miss working closely with them when Corzine appoints him to the U.S. Senate.
Thousands Come Out To Speak To Pallone
One man close to the front of the line was standing over his severely disabled daughter in a wheel chair holding a large yellow sign that said, OBAMA MAY KILL MY DAUGHTER. Several others where holding anti-ObamaCare signs. A few volunteers where handing out pro-ObamaCare materials and professionally printed signs that said THANK YOU.
By 6 PM there were easily 400 people on line with a steady flow of people coming from all directions. It seemed to be that 5-10% of those on line were pro-ObamaCare. They were wearing stickers and carrying to professionally printed signs. At 6:45 the doors where open and the first 500 people started to orderly enter the school auditorium, which thankfully was air conditioned. There was well over 1000 people on line by that time. The forum was to divided into two one hour sessions.
What impressed me about the crowd was how well behaved it was. 1000 people were patiently waiting online to speak to their congressman. There was no hostility present between those who held differing points of view.
Once inside, the crowd became more animated and vocal. Red Bank Mayor Pat Menna and Pallone walked to the front of the room to a loud mixture of cheers and jeers.
Pallone spoke for a few minutes about the virtues of the bill that he made clear he was a prime author of and sponsor of as Chairman of the Health Care sub-committee. He went out of his way to make his bill, HR 3200, sound benign and not a major change, except for those who do not have health insurance. The crowd knew better and wasn't buying it.
Tommy DeSeno was the first speaker from the public. Tom respectively informed the congressman that he read the bill, and an decades old statute that is 1500 pages long and concluded that despite President Obama's and Pallone's comments to the contrary, HR 3200 does not require coverage of pre-existing conditions. DeSeno presented Pallone with a column that he wrote that laid that out and asked Pallone to have legislative services check it out and correct the bill if Tom's analysis was accurate. Incredibly, Pallone's response was a bunch of double talk that affirmed DeSeno's analysis.
It didn't take long for Pallone to prove Jim Hogan right. Pallone does not care what his constituents think and he doesn't mind saying so.
A gentleman from Monmouth Beach was the third or fourth speaker. He told Pallone that he works for the people of the sixth congressional district and that it was his job to represent those residents, not the interests of Speaker Pallone (he meant Pelosi) and his fellow Democrats in Washington. The gentleman scolded Pallone for voting for the stimulus package without reading it, for his vote on "cap and trade" and his sponsorship of HR 3200.
Pallone arrogantly, yet calmly defended the stimulus package as working, to the jeers of the crowd. He declared himself an environmentalist and said that cap and trade was the most important environmental legislation he ever voted on. After the boos subsided, he said he believed the majority favors his health care reform and declared his friendship with and admiration for Chairman Henry Waxman and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He declared that he was there as a congressman, not a candidate, as if he was invulnerable to the will of those who elect him.
The crowd booed and jeered but didn't throw anything. The pro-ObamaCare people wearing the stickers started to leave. The two of the three pro-ObamaCare people who spoke were insulting to the crowd, one declaring her embarrassment that "this is democracy" and the other imploring Pallone not to be bullied. The third implored Pallone to jam the legislation through given the Democratic majority in Washington, regardless of the voices of the people.
As I left the meeting after an hour, there were another 1000-1200 people waiting to get into round two of Pallone not caring what they had to say.
Chris Fotache at Right In Jersey reports that round two of the community forum was a good deal rowdier than the first meeting I witnessed. Perhaps the two hours standing out in the heat had an effect. Chris also reports that a third meeting was held to accommodate those who didn't get into either of the first two.
Give Pallone credit for having the third meeting, despite the fact that he could have held the meeting in a location that could have handled the entire group. A reliable source informed me that Pallone was offered a 3000 person venue at Brookdale Community College for his forum and turned it down.
It's His Wall Street Way: Jon Corzine Gambles New Jersey Pension Fund to Bankroll Risky Investments and Bloated Government
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Jon Corzine ran for governor telling New Jersey he had the business credentials to get our state's economy moving in the right direction. Four years later, New Jersey has yet to see results from Governor Corzine. Instead, we've seen the highest unemployment in 32 years, the highest property taxes in the country, multi-billion dollar shortfalls and nearly $20 billion in losses for the New Jersey pension fund. Under Governor Corzine's watch, New Jersey's bloated government has expanded, increasing the burden on our state's taxpayers to unprecedented levels.
What we've seen is a Wall Street approach from our New Jersey governor that has made our state the most economically depressed in the region. Just look at how Governor Corzine manages the pension fund as though it is a bankroll for his budget deficits and Wall Street day trading, similar to the billions he played with at Goldman Sachs. Since Governor Corzine took office, he has consistently deferred billions in payments to New Jersey's pension fund. This cavalier attitude toward the billions needed to cover retirement benefits reflects his short-sighted approach to New Jersey's budget and his careless attitude to his obligations to New Jersey's taxpayers.
It's a Wall Street way that doesn't stop with Jon Corzine. Governor Corzine has shown where his loyalties lie, appointing former Wall Street colleagues to the State Investment Council, which oversees investment strategies and decisions for New Jersey's pension fund. Three of the Governor's six appointees have strong ties to Lehman Brothers and signed off on a questionable deal to buy $180 million in stock a little more than three months before Lehman imploded:
"The move attracted widespread attention since it was unusual for a U.S. state pension fund to use the same strategy as sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and private equity groups" ("NJ sues Lehman execs for fraud to recoup state funds," Reuters, 03/17/09).
Despite this glaring failure, which resulted in an Attorney General's suit to recoup the lost funds, Governor Corzine chose to reappoint all three. The Lehman appointees are not the only ones on the investment board who have Wall Street interests before New Jersey interests: "Senior officers from JP Morgan and Lehman Brothers, whose resumes include stints at Bear Stearns, Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley, are among the four new appointments Corzine announced to the State Investment Council" (Dustan McNichol, "4 money men bring fresh blood to expanded pension-fund panel," Star Ledger, 08/23/07).
Chris Christie stated: "Governor Corzine's handling of New Jersey's pension fund is shameful. Every year, Governor Corzine has signed budgets into law deferring billions in payments to the pension fund. Our state's taxpayers are left holding the bill thanks to Governor Corzine's shortsighted mismanagement of pension payments and high-risk investments by his Wall Street appointed investment board.
"New Jerseyans cannot afford to have Governor Corzine gambling with their money as though it is a faceless portfolio at Goldman Sachs. Governor Corzine needs to remember he resides on State Street, not Wall Street, and he needs to remember his loyalties should be to the people of New Jersey, not to traders on Wall Street."

A Fishy Email
Democrats, realizing the success of the President's "Cash For Clunkers"
rebate program, have revamped a major portion of their National Health Care
Plan.
President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Sen. Reed are expected to make this
major announcement at a joint news conference later this week. I have
obtained an advanced copy of the proposal which is named...."CASH FOR
CODGERS" and it works like this.... Couples wishing to access health care
funds in order to pay for the delivery of a child will be required to turn
in one old person. The amount the government grants them will be fixed
according to a sliding scale. Older and more prescription dependent codgers
will garner the highest amounts.
Special "Bonuses" will be paid for those submitting codgers in targeted
groups, such as smokers, alcohol drinkers, persons 10 pounds over their

Pallone Preview
Joe Schilp attended Frank Pallone's Monday townhall in Piscataway. Here's his story from the event:
This evening I had the distinct pleasure of attending the townhall meeting of my Congressman, Frank Pallone, Esq. The event was scheduled to go from 7pm to 9pm at the Piscataway Municipal Building, which is a very small building that holds about 100 people.
I arrived at 6pm to queue up and was stunned to see a Coach USA bus pulling out of the parking lot; that's right, folks, while the president, Congress and media claim that angry right-wing mobs are organized and taking over these events, the people I saw bused in were carrying professionally printed Pro-healthcare signs complete with the Obama logo on them.
So I parked and got on line with about 75 people in front of me.
The main topic of the forum was expected to be healthcare, though any topic could be discussed. The doors opened at 6:55 and people began filing in. At 7:15, the meeting began. (How can a gov't that cannot even start a simple meeting on time be trusted with healthcare?)
First to speak was Piscataway's illustrious mayor, my opponent in last year's election, Brian Wahler. The very first words that came out of Wahler's mouth, I kid you not, were that the "rules of engagement are as follows." That's right, he started the evening using war terminology. Rules of engagement? UGH! Then he proceeded to announce that we'd get an hour, the room would be evacuated, and the people still outside would be allowed in to get an hour.
Wahler talked for 5 minutes, then bragged about putting solar panels on the senior housing building. The funny thing is that almost a year ago to this very date, Wahler ridiculed my campaign promise to investigate the installation of solar panels on township buildings because "that would void the warantty on the roofs of all the buildings." Hooo-boy.
Anyhow, Pallone took the mic at 7:20 and spoke for exactly 13 minutes before opening the meeting to a Q & A. His staff announced that they'd randomly select people starting in the front of the room and work their way toward the back. Obviously, not everyone would get a chance to speak. Since the first people to enter were the bused people, 5 of the first 6 people who spoke were pro-gov't healthcare. But as the mic worked it's way to the back, 6 of the next 10 people were against it. In all, just 17 people got to ask questions.
Some of my favorite Pallone quotes of the evening were:
"We, federal employees, would be treated just like Wal-Mart (employees)," response to a question is Congress would take the same healthcare as the rest of us. This statement was met with hearty laughter.
"I always vote to have government funding of abortion." That's right, folks, he's proud to spend your hard-earned money paying to kill babies.
"I support Nancy Pelosi. Actually, Nancy is one of my favorite people."
Anyhow, I did not get a chance to speak on mic, but I did approach Pallone when my group was leaving I told him that the spending had to stop, that $9 trillion in deficit is irresponsible, that the auto bailouts failed horrendously and that all these taxes take away my ability to create jobs. He had no response, choosing to turn away to take a picture with a supporter.
I then left to see at least 300 people queued-up outside and I knew that at least half of them would not even get in the door.
If you are going to see him tomorrow, know this, they will try to take your name on a sign-up sheet; I chose not to sign-up. Get there early. Grab a pro-Obama sign even if you are not a supporter as it may help you get the microphone and people will be there handing them out. And say hello to Col. Rash. He was there this evening and, I suspect, will be in Red Bank tomorrow.

Christie Counter Punches, Misses
The Christie campaign came out swinging at Jon Corzine today---and missed.
In an apparent attempt to move attention away from his loan to Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Brown and his subsequent failure to report the loan on federal and state disclosure forms and his 2007 income taxes, Christie issued press releases, held a press teleconference call, and released the video that appears above, to make an issue of Jon Corzine's conduct in the 80's and 90's while a trader and executive at Goldman Sachs.
The Christie camp is trying to get the press and the voters to focus on Corzine's involvement with Enron and a security Goldman invented called Monthly Income Preferred Shares (MIPS) that allowed Enron and other companies to appear financially stronger than they actually were and to get favorable tax treatment for the costs of those securities.
During the press conference call, most reporters were more interested in talking about Christie's financial relationship with Brown and his ongoing relationship, if any, with the U.S. Attorney's office, than they were in dealing with Corzine, Enron and MIPS.
Despite the fact that Enron/MIPS is a valid issue---it demonstrates what an evil creature Corzine is---the Christie campaign can't land this punch in a meaningful way for three reasons:
1) It is old news. Bob Franks or Jim Florio might have been able to use it in the 2001 U.S. Senate race, but voters are more concerned about the pain they are feeling now than what Corzine did to inflict pain on them, investors and the general public 15 years ago.
2) Only those proficient in the jargon of corporate finance will understand what a blatant scam MIPS was. Most voters and reporters are not fluent in that language. I wrote about it in 2007 when fighting Corzine's 800% toll increase scheme. It went over with a resounding thud. Enlighten New Jersey wrote of Corzine's Atrocities in 2005. Lefty Arianna Huffington wrote of it in 2002. The New Republic, Business Week and The Wall Street Journal wrote about it in 2002. It did not stick then and it won't stick now because most people don't understand it and don't understand how it is impacting their lives.
Last, and most importantly, with approval numbers in the 30's, Corzine is not likely to get any less popular than he already is. The Christie campaign is wasting precious time and resources trying to make Corzine less popular than he already is over something he did 15 years ago that most people won't understand.
New Jersey's voters are ready to vote against Jon Corzine. As we head into September, the Christie needs to give New Jersey reasons to vote for him.
New Jersey needs to meet Chris Christie the leader. We need to meet Chris Christie the optimistic problem solver. We need to meet the Chris Christie who is proud of New Jersey, the Christie who can tap into that pride that is already there but below the surface for most of us.
We need to meet a Christie who mocks his detractors, like Obama did so well in 2008, and who inspires us and pulls us together like Reagan did in 1980 and 1984.
That is the Chris Christie that can withstand the mud Corzine will throw in the next 10 1/2 weeks and emerge victorious on November 3.
Monmouth GOP Calls on Citizens to Speak Out Against Frank Pallone’s Bad Medicine For America
Congressman Frank Pallone’s plan to raise taxes while cutting health
care services for Americans.
“In a televised interview, Frank Pallone recently revealed his and the
liberal Democrats’ plan for healthcare of higher taxes and cuts to
doctors, nurses and hospitals,” said Oxley. “Frank Pallone is out of
touch with New Jersey families. He wants us to pay more for less
coverage. It’s vital that citizens speak out against this disastrous
scheme for the American healthcare system.”
Frank Pallone is holding a town hall meeting tonight at the Piscataway
Municipal Building, 455 Hoes Lane from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm, and another
town hall meeting tomorrow at the Red Bank Middle School, 101 Harding
Road, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The Monmouth County Republicans recently launched an internet video
criticizing Pallone’s position and urging citizens to let their voices
be heard. The video can be viewed here:
Preparation For This Week's Town Hall Meetings
Pallone's Monmouth County forum is tomorrow, August 25 at the Red Bank Middle School, 101 Harding Rd, Red Bank. 7PM
Holt's Town Hall meeting is Wednesday, August 26 at the Middletown Arts Center. 7PM
Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre will hold a meeting preceding Holt's, at 5:30, outside the Arts Center, weather permitting.
It's His Wall Street Way: Jon Corzine Fought for Tax Breaks for Enron, But Raises Taxes on New Jerseyans
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Jon Corzine frequently touts his Wall Street credentials, but Wall Street is just where he learned to manipulate the rules to make money for himself, regardless of the consequences to average taxpayers. Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno today calls on Governor Corzine to account for his role in creating, protecting and fighting for Enron's off-shore tax havens and enabling them to successfully scam the government and New Jerseyans. Sheriff Guadagno asks Governor Corzine to come clean and provide answers to New Jerseyans about his real role in the Enron debacle.
Corzine Invents Financial Loophole to Mask Corporate Debt. When Governor Corzine was Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs, he spearheaded the invention of a new security-one meant to allow his client, Enron, to parade massive debt as equity. Monthly Income Preferred Securities (MIPS) were "designed in such a way that it could be called debt or equity, as needed. For the tax man, it resembled a loan, so that interest payments could be deducted from taxable income. For shareholders and rating agencies, who look askance at overleveraged companies, it resembled equity" (John McKinnon and Greg Hitt, "Double Play: How Treasury Lost In Battle To Quash A Dubious Security," Wall Street Journal, 02/04/02). This loophole, which allowed billions in debt to be hidden, eventually led to Enron's implosion and resulted in lost pensions for hard-working Americans, including $61 million from the New Jersey's own pension fund.
As New Jersey taxpayers reeled and were strapped with the burden of recouping the fund's losses, Corzine's multi-billion dollar investment firm raked in $69 million in fees from their business dealings with Enron.
Corzine Lobbies President Clinton to Preserve Tax Haven for Enron. New Jerseyans know that responsible stewardship means little to greedy Wall Street executives like Jon Corzine. This point was poignantly illustrated when the Clinton Administration attempted to rein in Goldman Sachs' questionable accounting practices for Enron before it was too late: "To top officials at the Clinton Treasury Department, the so-called Monthly Income Preferred Shares, or MIPS, looked like a charade - a way for companies to mask the size of their debt while cutting their federal tax bill" (John McKinnon and Greg Hitt, "Double Play: How Treasury Lost In Battle To Quash A Dubious Security," Wall Street Journal, 02/04/02). The Clinton Administration's U.S. Treasury took aim at the risky and manipulative tax haven, but their efforts to stymie Enron's foreseeable collapse were torpedoed by an aggressive lobbying campaign led by Jon Corzine, who went as far as to lobby President Bill Clinton with a personal letter of appeal: "One letter, signed by Jon Corizne, then chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs, and 34 others portrays the Treasury as attempting to draw "completely arbitrary lines" between debt and equity" (John McKinnon and Greg Hitt, "Double Play: How Treasury Lost In Battle To Quash A Dubious Security," Wall Street Journal, 02/04/02).
Enron Collapses. 5 years later, after Jon Corzine successfully lobbied to enable Enron's questionable accounting practices, Enron collapsed, New Jerseyans saw their pensions evaporate and Jon Corzine walked away with a bonus.
Not surprisingly, Jon Corzine is unwilling to expose his dubious history aiding some of Wall Street's largest firms to wiggle out of taxes, while using his time as New Jersey's Governor to heap taxes on hard-working citizens and small businesses.
Sheriff Guadagno Demands Answers. Sheriff Kim Guadagno said, "Given Jon Corzine's past history of manipulating debt with disastrous consequences, New Jersey cannot afford him cavalierly rolling the dice with our money in the same way he rolled the dice with the money of millions of investors, including New Jersey's pension fund. New Jerseyans work hard for their money and they deserve a Governor who will look out for their best interests-rather than the best interests of his financial investments and his political party.
"As Goldman Sachs' CEO, Jon Corzine made a practice of hiding hundreds of billions for large corporations in off-shore tax havens, so it's little surprise that he seems unconcerned about New Jersey's looming $10 billion deficit. Only an out of touch Wall Street executive would trivialize the crushing weight of reconciling these massive debts on New Jersey's middle class families. I call upon Governor Corzine to finally shed light on his full participation in the hard-press lobby that allowed tax havens for corporations like Enron to evade the system, and release all records related to his lobbying of the Clinton Administration and Congress that allowed these tax havens to thrive," continued Sheriff Guadagno.

Could There Be Another Email Controversy Brewing?
More recently the White House asked citizens to forward "fishy, under the radar" emails critical of ObamaCare to flag@whitehouse.gov. Shortly thereafter citizens started to get unsolicited emails, i.e., spam from White House Senior Advisor David Axlerod seeking support for ObamaCare.
There may be a new controversy brewing that impacts to gubernatorial race. A MoreMonmouthMusings reader reports receiving a campaign email from Democratic LG candidate Senator Loretta Weinberg. This reader never signed up for Corzine/Weinberg emails but has subscribed to the Governor's official state website for updates.
Could it be that the Corzine campaign is using State resources for political purposes?

Bateman To Primary Smith In CD 4
Bateman's letter can be viewed and downloaded here.
Barring another challenger entering the 12th district race, this developement apparently clears the way from Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre to challenge Congressman Rush Holt. Bateman was the Republican candidate against Holt in 2008.
Smith seems to have taken notice that he faces a challenge next year. He has been very visible in Republican circles of late. He attended the Monmouth County Finance Gala and was present this week at MCGOP headquarters in Freehold when NJ GOP Chairman Jay Webber addressed municipal chairs and Christie coordinators.

Corzine Beats Christie In Cockroach Race

This just in from The Press of Atantic City:
NEW BRUNSWICK - If you have any faith in the prediction powers of cockroaches, Jon Corzine will win November's gubernatorial election.
A giant hissing Madagascar cockroach representing the Democrat easily beat the one representing his Republican rival on Thursday.
They raced over a six-foot long Plexiglas track during the New Jersey Pest Management Association's annual clinic and trade show in New Brunswick.
While the group acknowledges there's no evidence roaches can predict anything, it hoped the race created excitement about the work pest control professionals perform.
The Christie roach claimed it had been Corzined because it was not informed about the toll increase on the track.
Pallone Moves His Meeting
The congressman has moved the venue of his August 25 town hall meeting from the 100 seat Red Bank Borough Hall meeting room to the larger auditorium at the Red Bank Middle School.
The Red Bank Middle School is located at 101 Harding Road, Red Bank. The meeting will still be held at 7pm on Tuesday August 25. You are encouraged to come early.

New Jersey Republican State Committee Chairman Jay Webber Issues Statement On U.S. Representative Frank Pallone's Comments On The U.S. Attorney's Offi
"Representative Pallone's assertions stretch believability to the breaking point and approach the territory of a paranoid conspiracy theory. Congressman Pallone has politicized the legislative process, and now he's impugned the integrity of an entire office of public servants. To allege misconduct in high places, without facts and on the flimsiest of inferences, is reckless, irresponsible, and sleazy. Congressman Pallone should be ashamed of himself. He owes an apology to the U.S. Attorney's office and his constituents - who would be better served if the congressman focused on the issues he was elected to deal with."
Commentary:
Mr. Chairman, as one of Pallone's constituents, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, except for this part:
his constituents - who would be better served if the congressman focused on the issues he was elected to deal with
Pallone, as chairman of the Subcommittee on health care of House Energy and Commerce Committee is one of the architects of HR 3200. I'd rather he keep shaming himself as a caddy for Corzine than destroy our country with his radical ideas.
If he keeps this up, we might finally be able to unseat him.
The Linden Forum Calls Out Cryan

Democratic Chairman, double dipping Assemblyman, Union County undersheriff and de facto Monmouth County Freeholder Director, Joe Cyran has called for an "immediate and thorough investigation" of Chris Christie's loan to Michele Brown.
That should be a short investigation, since Christie isn't hiding anything. He owned up to his mistake and took corrective action.
As The Linden Forum points out Cryan has his own history of "innocent" mistakes.
FAIR HAVEN MAYOR HALFACRE TO HOST “OPEN TO ALL TOWNHALL” ON OBAMA HEALTHCARE REFORM
Halfacre said his event was designed make sure that people who oppose Obamacare get a chance to speak their minds.
“After the intial blowback of the first townhalls, you now have lawmakers intentionally scheduling these meetings in small rooms, you have lawmakers packing the room with supporters bused in from outside the district to ensure that everyday people aren’t given their full chance to speak. I want to make sure that people have a chance to speak their minds without worrying whether or not they get into Rush Holt’s meeting, or depending on Holt staffers to call on them.”
Halfacre, who is running against Holt in 2010 for Holt’s 12th Congressional District seat, said he would say a few words at the beginning of the program and then open up the floor to questions or people who simply wanted to make statements about Obamacare.
“We’ll have a copy of the bill there, sitting on a table. I’ll be glad to answer anyone’s questions about the bill as best I can, and if there are people who support the single-payer or the public option, they’ll get a chance to speak too. That’s why we’re calling it Open to All. We want to have a dialogue, not a cheerleading session, and we don’t want anyone shut out.
Halfacre said he expected the gathering to be passionate but civil.
“There is a tremendous amount of dissatisfaction out there, not only over healthcare reform, but the general direction the country has taken on a number of issues. People are starting to have serious buyer’s remorse with President Obama. I am hopeful that this townhall will give people an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction in a forceful but civil way and let our elected officials know that there is significant opposition to the government taking over one-sixth of the economy and intruding into people’s personal health decisions.”
The meeting will take place on the side of the Middletown Arts Center adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial, across from the Middletown train station. Light refreshments will be served.

Corzine's Priorities
But what does he say when speaking to an even friendlier audience?
Corzine had a conference call with Blue Jersey bloggers yesterday. He told them:
I hope you are all as convinced as I am that progressive politics is on the ballot.
Corzine named the stakes:
Marriage equality ...collective bargaining ...the Death Penalty stays repealed ...we expand health care at the state level ... close achievement gaps at the state level.
Close the acheivement gap at the state level?
Does that mean that Corzine has a magic formula for low acheivers? Or does it mean that he wants to take from high acheivers and give to low acheivers? The latter is the quickest way to close the acheivement gap, because the high acheivers will leave in a hurry, leaving only the low acheivers behind.
That's a brilliant way to revive the economy. Yeeesh.

NJ Unemployment Rises While Nation's Decline's. Corzine Brags About It

13,000 New Jobs in New Jersey
Dear Art,
By now, you've probably seen the Gun Lobby-sponsored Republican advertising against me. You know, the ones that say, "watch what he does, not what he says."
Well, the new numbers on job creation in New Jersey came out today, so, for a change of pace, let's listen to the Republicans and take a close look at what my administration has done about creating jobs in New Jersey:
*13,000 private sector jobs were added last month because of our business-friendly policies.
*At the same time, our continued focus on increasing efficiency in government led to a reduction in 7,000 public sector jobs.
*Our state-wide unemployment rate continues to remain below the national average.
These are inescapable, indisputable facts that our first-in-the-nation economic recovery package is working, and that not only are businesses staying in New Jersey, but they're actually growing. Small businesses are taking advantage of the programs we're offering in the state, and job creation numbers are going up as a result.
Not even Karl Rove can spin that success away.
Since the earliest days of this national crisis, I've made New Jersey's economy my first, second, and third priority. I was determined to ensure that our state is well-positioned to take advantage when this global economic recession turns around, and we are beginning to see the effects.
We're seeing these results because we put New Jersey's share of the federal stimulus right to work into transportation and infrastructure projects, passed programs like the Invest New Jersey initiative which offers a $3000 grant to small-business for every new job created, and signed a second economic stimulus package two weeks ago to ensure that we keep New Jersey's recovery going strong.
Make no mistake, we still have a long way to go and there is much work still to be done, but my administration's recovery initiatives are fostering job creation, while President Obama's recovery program is helping to restore economic confidence.
Together, we're making real progress for New Jersey.
Governor Jon Corzine
P.S. Stay connected with our campaign and cut through the spin. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or text NJ to 71310 to get updates on your cell phone.
Ooops!
Corzine's unemployment prediction met the result of his policies today and the policies won creating more unemployment, which is now at 9.3%, a 32-year high.
Turns out Corzine's prediction of a falling unemployment rate was unfounded hope. This is what he said on yesterday: "It wouldn't surprise me," he said during an interview on MSNBC's Morning Joe program. "I think actually the stimulus has done a lot to begin to turn a massive ship." http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/08/gov_corzine_expects_latest_nj.html
Although he was right when he said, "I actually think that the number one, two and three issue is the economy," Corzine said. "People are really, really challenged in the world that we live in right now."
Which is why, despite recent sillyness, Chris Christie will win the Governors race this year. When the public starts to understand the huge negative ramifications that Democrat policies did to the NJ economy Corzine's negatives will be even further down then they are now.
NJ’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE UP AGAIN WHILE THE NATIONAL RATE FALLS
“Jon Corzine’s record on job creation is abysmal. New Jersey’s economy was in decline long before the national recession took hold. Our unemployment rate remains higher than that of any neighboring state’s.
“More disturbing is the fact that New Jersey’s rate actually rose while the national rate was falling. Sadly, today’s numbers don’t tell the whole story. The official unemployment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) doesn’t include ‘discouraged workers.’ Discouraged Workers’ are unemployed men and women, who no longer qualify for benefits.
“Governor Jon Corzine must take immediate action to improve the worst-in-the-nation business climate of this state, in order to grow more private sector jobs. Until now he has failed miserably as a steward of the state’s economy, and families are suffering as a result.”
Yeeesh?
Not, according to Dictionary.com or the Merriam-Webster online dictionary.
Yet, the Asbury Park Press used the "word" in reference to Governor Corzine in an editorial today.
Maybe they meant "Sheesh" which is a euphemistic way to say poo poo or use the Lord's name in vain as an expression of annoyance, surprise or disgust. That would fit with the tenor of their editorial.
The APP was editorialising about this appearance Corzine made on MSNBC's Morning Joe yesterday.
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
If you don't have six minutes to watch the video, Corzine said that his service as a sergeant in the Marine Corp will trump his reputation as a Wall Street insider in the minds of New Jersey voters. Funny, I don't recall that part of his resume from the 2005 campaign or any mention of it until just recently.
Corzine also said that New Jersey's terrible economy is not his fault or the fault of his policies. Didn't he say last week that his actions and policies prevented an economic melt down? Doesn't he have a web ad that says he saw the recession coming and took action to stop it?
He said, "My line is, Why would you want to give the keys to the State House to the people who made a mess of the White House?"
Yeeesh.

Quote Of The Day
This is easy - if Chris Christie has sex with the person he gave the loan to, then the whole thing automatically becomes a private affair and no one's business.
Hey - it's fun to be a Democrat!
Double Standards
Christie and his wife Mary Pat lent Michelle Brown $46,000 and took a second mortgage on her house as collateral. Brown was Christie's employee in the U.S. Attorney's office at the time the loan was made. She lives in the Christies' neighborhood. Christie explained the loan as as helping a friend in need. Brown's husband had lost his job and the couple had racked up credit card debts.
Corzine lent his lover and at the time state employees union leader Carla Katz $470,000. He later forgave that mortgage and gave her another $6,000,000 at the termination of their romantic relationship. Corzine and Katz have refused to explain their entanglement, insisting it was a private matter. A private matter between a governor and the head of the largest state employees union.
Christie's problem is that, like Corzine, he failed to disclose the loan on his federal and state financial disclosure forms.
If the Christies intended to hide their financial relationship with Brown, they would have kept the loan unsecured and not recorded a mortgage. That the loan was not disclosed on Christie's disclosure forms was probably a careless mistake, like the U.S. Treasury Secretary failing to pay taxes he had already been reimbursed for.
Christie should amend his disclosure forms and then stand up at a press conference, like he did when the Deferred Prosecution Agreements story broke, and answer all of the questions honestly.
Republicans will always be subject to these double standards. That is because we are committed to higher standards. We stand for the best in people and are committed to a society that empowers the best in people and rewards individual achievement. Democrats are committed to a government dominated society that views people as mediocre and needy. The ideal Democratic government rewards failure and fosters dependency.
Thus, Democrats and their partners in the media will always make a bigger deal of failures and mistakes on the part of a Republican than they will a Democrat. We've seen it time and time again.
Whining about the double standard is a losing strategy. We should embrace the double standard, because we asked for it. Standing up and being accountable is the only winning strategy.
Just wondering....
How does the co-op plan being floated now as a replacement for the public option differ from Horizon/Blue Cross and other "mutual" insurance companies that have been around for decades?
From observing reports of the town hall meetings around the country, it seems that the attendees have been mostly middle class, middle aged and elderly white people who have health care coverage. Where are the reported 40-50 million people without coverage?
Why are Democrats opposed to a national health insurance market with more competition vs the state regulated market we have now?
Why are Democrats opposed to small businesses being allowed to join together to form larger groups to buy their employees health insurance?

Enough Already
There is nothing less I would like to be doing right now then to be writing a blog post but Corzine's desperate campaign has really gotten to the laughable quicker than any other campaign in New Jersey's recent history, and that includes the Unanue debacle spearheaded by the former NJGOP brain-trust Rick Wright.
Corzine's camp just released "damning", quotes are needed here because otherwise I would not be able to actually type it without laughing to the point of exhaustion, evidence that Chris Christie loan a staffer some money because she was in too deep with credit card debt and her husband just lost her job. And this is a knock on Christie? Huh?
Wait, let me get this straight. Corzine is actually criticizing Christie for helping out a colleague, albeit one of lower standing within the office, with a loan. This is the same corzine that donated a cool $6,000,000 to the former lover/Union President Karla "I need to be a Kardashian" Katz foundation and another $500,000 to her brother, who fancies himself a yellow tabloid author, in supposed hush money? The same Corzine who re-nominated the Pension Board members who lost nearly $36 BILLION in pension money in the last twelve months, including a last minute $175,000,000 investment to Lehman Bros, shortly before it's demise? (Even though the Pension Board members hailed from Lehman Bros.) This is the same Corzine who buckled to Union demands of higher salaries and more hires even though we are $10,000,000,000 in the hole (and that is just '10 projections!). This is the same Corzine who spent nearly 30% of his time NOT as governor, galavanting the country pitching Hillary Clinton's worthiness for the highest election position in the land while his own state suffered under massive bureaucratic red tape and anti-business regulation put upon it by the same people who endorsed his opponent today?
ENOUGH! I hate to say this, because it came back to bite the Republicans in the arse when Forrester was running against "The Torch", but Corzine really needs to throw in the towel while he has a scant measure of dignity left.
Red Bank BoE Offers Pallone Use Of The Middle School Auditorium
According to a report in Red Bank Green, Red Bank schools Superintendent Laura Morana has said Congressman Frank Pallone can use the middle school auditorium for his August 25th Community Forum, rather than the 100 seat meeting room at the Red Bank Borough Hall.

The Falsetto State: Chapter Two
Congressman Frank Pallone (Falsetto, Long Branch) is another example of a man performing without balls.
Today's print edition of the Asbury Park Press (sorry, if the article is on the website I can't find it) has an article about Pallone's upcoming Community Forum on August 25th, at the Red Bank Municipal Building.
The Red Bank meeting room only holds 100 people. The APP suggested to Pallone that he move the forum to a larger venue. Can't do it, sang Frankie:
"We can't switch it now. Notices have gone out (to contstituents) and there in no way to notify them again," Pallone said after a press conference. What will happen is people will get confused. If I switched (locations), it would have to be held a month from now. We'll stay until everyone's heard, but it's not possible to switch."
Hogwash Frank. Corzine moved his rally with President Obama from Rutgers to the PNC Arts Center on short notice. You could move your forum too. The word would get out.
Congressman Rothman changed the venue of his town meetings on very short notice this week. Word got out. You have plenty of time to change the venue Frank.
In the spirit of cooperation I checked some locations.
The Count Basie Theater, just down the street from Red Bank Borough Hall would be ideal. It seats over 1500 and anyone confused would just follow the crowd. Too bad, it's booked. Melissa Etheridge is playing.
The Two River Theater Company is a short walk from Borough Hall. But with only 349 seats, it is probably too small as well. Besides, TRTC has a private booking that night.
Wait! Count Basie and TRTC are both booked and Falsetto Pallone is performing at Borough Hall! Where are people going to park?!
Frank, you really need to move your community forum. You really do want to hear what is on your constituents' minds, like your post card said, don't you Frank?
I have just the place:
ASBURY PARK. Both Conventional Hall (Seats 3600) and the Paramount Theater (seats 1600) are available!
Frank, prove to the people of the 6th District that you are not a falsetto. Have the balls to meet with all who want to tell you want is on their minds. Don't hold the meeting in a 100 seat room in Red Bank on a night when there will be no parking. Go to Asbury Park, Frank. I bet I can even get Tommy DeSeno to show you around.
